I know most ADD'ers have horrible sleep trouble. I had to finally do a sleep study, and found out I have sleep apnea! I am on a cpap machine and sleep allot better now. When I do finally go to sleep, I go into REM sleep and dream like crazy! Has anyone else been told this?
My dad was dianosed with sleep apnea, and my husband has tried to tell me to have it checked for myself. He says he's woken up on many different occasions thinking that I sound like I'm dying (choking, struggling to breathe momentarily, etc). I do have a sleep (maintenance) disorder but never even checked for the apnea. I think it's something that can come on as you get older too because certain muscles in your throat start to relax. My dad swears by his breathing machine. He was always walking around tired, and didn't know why. Now he gets really good rest.My husband said the same thing, that he wakes up and I sound like I am choking. He also complains that my feet move all night, like I am running. I did the sleep study, but they did not find apnea. Interesting though, my brain had none of the normal periods of non-REM sleep. It was REM all night. I generally don't remember any dreams though.I think sleep studies are very beneficial. It just really hard to go to sleep with all that equipment on. I sleep great with it on, but I really hate going to bed! I get up in a much better mood now. I used to be the biggest grump in the morning. I would yell at people for waking me up!
I used to have jobs when you get up early like most people, but I just cain't function as well in the morning!
I also am ADD and i had a sleep study 1 year ago and they said that i have sleep apnea and put me on a cpap machine as well.I could not afford to keep it because i lost my insurance due to divorce but I am going to try to get it back now that i have insurance again. My issue was that my oxygen level would drop really low while sleeping and i would stop breathing for periods of times.

My husband is overweight, and his as ad/hd, and for a while he had sleep apnea issues.
I did research on sleep apnea, and for those who have it extremely bad, it CAN POSSIBLY cause ad/hd-like symptoms sometimes. it's from going for such long time without having a proper night of sleep, and your body get's sleep deprived, and this can cause the person who is sleep deprived to display symptoms during the day that can mimic ad/hd.
My husband never had sleep apnea THAT BADLY, but he does have it a little, and he uses nose spray regularly, and this makes it much better, because he was getting his apnea attacks from swollen sinuses.
But for him, his ad/hd still remains.
Don't ever remember sleeping well.
