havent written in awhile...my son was doing great for a couple of weeks on both straterra and concerta, then the problems started! First his chest would hurt constently,to the point where i took him to a cardiologist, thinking it was his heart! then his fingers would go numb, eventually his whole arm and legs...then the hyperventilating started! my son suffered for almost a week until the drugs were out of his system...i got no sleep for a week. he had to be put in the hospital and monitored towards the end....i dont know exactly what happened, but apparently the two drugs combined were to much for his body to take. he is now on ony straterra 54mg. and the problems  in school are starting again...the only option left is ridalin...i have heard alot about this drug, please let me know of any side effects...Stunts growthI've heard it stunts growth, but in reality I don't think there's much truth to that, other than in small children stimulants can cause problems in brain developement...

I wouldn't put your child on Ritalin if he had those kinds of problems with Concerta, they are both the same medicine (methylphenidate HCl) except one is a time release design pill.

Just to let you know your son has been on ritalin.  Concerta is just an extended release form of ritalin.  Ritalin is a stimulant.  Strattera is a nonstimulant medication.  Ritalin and concerta start working quickly.  Strattera can take up to 6 weeks to see an effect.  So, right now the most important thing is that your son is getting better physically.  This must have been extremely hard and frightening for you.  Make sure you talk to his doctor.  The additive effects of both the Stattera and Concerta probably caused the problems.  I can understand because as a mom I can relate.  My 2 year old son is having surgery in a few weeks and illness and hospitalization is very stressful.  I was just diagnosed with ADD and started on Concerta.  I drink a lot of coffee and took a decongestant that had an additive effect on the effects of the concerta.  I couldn't sleep for several days and felt too "speedy".  Now I feel better that the decongestant is out of my system.  Just hang in there.  I know you want your son to get better so speak to his doctor and ask a lot of questions.  By the way, there is a lot of information on the internet regarding medications.  Try to educate yourself and you will feel more in control.  I'll be saying a prayer for you and your son.

How do you know that it stunts a childs growth?
