At this point it looks like I'll have to find a wealthy person to marry me. One accomodating enough to put up with my ways.
Can't see myself holding down a job long term either.
Is it possible to be finacially successful and have ADD? (if this was covered already, sorry I missed it going thru the old posts).
Was diagnosed with ADD about 2yrs ago. I can deal with all the 'quirks' known to be ADD except one, not being able to hold a job. I'm soooooo tired of just getting by (and barely that).
What's adding to my frustration is that I'm reaching that point in life where I can see my parents possibly needing my help soon. Being an only child, it falls solely on my shoulders.
I'm not talking having money like Bill Gates (though it would be nice), just enough for what it takes to live and survive comfortably (I put it that way because everyones 'comfort' level is different).
I'd love to be self employed, but that seems to take social skills ADDers lack.
Am I doomed to 'just getting by'?

Too funny!
I am almost 63 and not employed. I have just been recently dx with ADD and started on Strattera this past week so don't know if I will try the employment thing or not at this point, if I did it would be part-time. So far we are living on my husbands retirement. Do we have a fancy house and new car no but what we do have is paid for now.
I really wanted to tell you one of my brothers has been dx for 20 years he successfully owns his own security business and supports a wife and 4 kids that are in upper grades or college and his wife doesn't work. So my answer to your question is "yes" I've seen it done.
Yes. My father has ADHD, and he's CEO and majority shareholder of a major healthcare company. He's currently worth close to 20 million dollars. All this without taking any sort of medication in his life.
does anyone think an ADD person could be good at organising other people?
If I was the boss I would give everyone the afternoon off. I think sometimes people think I'm a ditz because I'm always laughing at everything. Bosses are supposed to look serious, no one would respect me.
You can actually find a job that fits your ADHD traits...
I wish I got paid for wasting hours on end on line.
Lottery??? DANG.. I forgot to check last night's drawing..where is my mind?I am self-employed. It took a while to get use to it. The current effort (see my sig) is going well. I love it! Before this much of what I did was either very good or very unfulfilling.
Early on I got laid off and part of the severance was going to a placement company. I was told to identify my particluar pshcometric profile (I was very averse to this Gattica Like Approach) However after taking the myers briggs test and reading a book called do what you are, I changed my perspective. Since then I have seen the benefits of using the approach to guage my current state. (it does change as my experiences change)
One thing I would say is that what you do can be aligned to your ADD. I would say working as a consultant was where I found the most success. You want situation with immediate gratificiation (In Software that means Help desk or HR) where your tasks have a newness, and immediacy preferably ones that require intense focus and little time to complete.
I certainly hope so. That's why I keep buying lottery tickets...
