Extrememely frustrated on concerta | ADHD Information

I'm about 2 weeks into taking Concerta (18mg) and finally getting used to the effects. It has not yet begun to help me concentrate, but the side effects are mellowing out. The first couple days sucked, I felt drugged up and tweaked out. It sounds like you are taking a pretty heavy dose, my Doc felt I was better off starting low and working my way up rather than vice-versa. I'd rather go that way then over do it, this is a pretty powerful drug. Good luck. I am hoping this stuff works for me, I will not take straterra because of the sexual side effects many experience. All things considered, I'd rather have a healthy love life and be scatter brained than be granted the ability to focus on the fact that I can no longer *perform.* Hi mrsmikey, my son takes 72 mg. of concerta, and he does very well with it. What i have noticed is if he gains or loses weight the meds. will stop working. It sounds like concerta is not working for you and i would ask the Dr. to try something else.I'd tell my Dr. if I were you. Stimulant medications work very fast   from everything I have read and my own experience.  20 minutes after I went from 5  to 10 mg ritalin in the AM I felt a positive effect. I don't think  you  should have to 'get used" too  them for them to aid concentration. I feel a  little edgy  once in a while if I dont eat when I take Ritalin so, I do.  54mg is an awful lot of  stimulant to start with( I guess not if people take 72mg it must be different)...Isn't it near the maximum dose? I thought Concerta was time release ritalin and ritalin's max daily dose is 60 mg.   My Dr. started me at 5 mg  twice a day  then worked up  from their till I get to what was a therapuetic dose for me. Everyone is different and all meds dont work for all folks. GL   I hope you get some relief but, if it had me  feeling like you describe I wouldn't bother taking it.  I have enough trouble  focusing w/o  taking a medication that's making concentration difficult. BOBEL38439.2740509259I don't have ADD, but with any medication, if one is not working, try another.  I don't know if this helps, and I don't know much about the meds, but I do know that I used to take Actifed for sinuses/allergies, which made me feel that speedy feeling, I had to try a whole bunch of meds before I found one that was right for me.  Talk to your doc and see what recommendation he/she can give you.

I am extremely frustrated with the side effects of concerta.  I feel at edge and have no concentration at all.  It's like I'm feeling "high" and can't wait to come down.  I've noticed that my eyes are glassy and I am avoiding eye contact with others.  Since I had to work this weekend, I decreased my concerta dose from 54 to 36 mg but still feel speedy.  I am ready to hang it up and continue to live with the ADD.  This seems much worse and because I feel so terrible from lack of sleep and the speedy feeling I can't accomplish anything.  What is it like to achieve some focus?  I feel like the medications won't work for me and it has made me more depressed.  I would appreciate anyone's advice on how to cope with this because it seems as though the treatment is worse than living with ADD.
