adhd tics | ADHD Information

My son is 7 years old.  He was on Concerta for a little over a year before (very suddenly) developing severe head and neck tics.  Our doctor switched in him aderall time released and said the tics should go away within about 30 days.  It has been 30 days and I don't see that they are even slightly improved.  I am very concerned because we spent a lot of time with counseling etc. prior to starting the meds initially and they have been working great.  His grades are great, his social skills have improved.  Now this.  Has anyone else experienced this?  If so,  did it go away on it's own? Or any suggestions on what else we could try?    Hi aseefeld, Yes, I have experienced the exact same thing with my 7 year old son! I have posted this previously so please excuse me if you have already read it! My son developed all sorts of tics on Ritalin and Aderall.  The tics even became verbal-coughing, repetative sounds etc.  My dx told me they would go away eventually but they did not.  Even after removing him from meds it took quite a while for them to dissappear(subsided after 1 month more after 2 months)  I was so concerned that I took him off those meds completely and decided to take him to a psych. who specialized in adhd children.  He put us on Tenex(Guanfacine) about a year ago and it has made a huge difference in all arena's and NO TICS!he told me Tenex really helps children who present with Tics on the above meds.  I have said it before and I apologize if I sound like a broken record but if the side effects of any meds are concerning you keep searching for a different alternative because there are alternatives out there that will work for your child and you'll know it when it is the right fit!  Good luck to you and please let me know if the tics go away!

Sometimes-But they can also be caused or exacerbated by stimulant meds-Are you on stims and able to control the tics through b1?  And Please forgive me if i am asking too personal a question-but what kind of tics are you controlling-blinking? verbal? multi-step?  I would love to know more info. on the B1.

Thank you!

Tics are caused by lack of B1 in the diet. This does work I do it daily.

My son is 14 and suffers from tics very badd. Especially with the Ritalin. I had to take him to a neurologist, who prescribed Risperdal. It worked wonders. Now he takes Risperdal to control the tics and Strattera for ADHD. Try seeking help from a Neurologist they specialize in tic disorers.
