Adderall dosages

I'm just curious....my son is on 15mg oaf Adderall XR, and he is 6 years old, and his grandmother has been on my back since he started taking the meds. She says that the dosage is too strong for a child. Just curious how much adults are normally prescribed, because she thinks he is taking an adult dosage. I have assured her several times that the ris k is small. Can anyone give me some advice on how to speak to her about this and be more accepting of my son taking what he needs to function normally? She acts like I'm giving him medicine because I can't deal with him, when actually he really is ADHD all the way.

PLEASE HELP!!!! She's driving me crazy

Well, first off, doses of Adderall are not based on weight, height, etc. It is based on the brain's metabolism of the drug. Tell her to do her research and she would know that a child could need more than an adult if their brain's metabolism of the drug varied in such a way.

Because doses are based on the individual's brain's metabolism of the drug, this doesn't really matter, but I personally take 75mg Adderall XR in the morning and 10mg immediate-release in the evening.

When my son was on Adderall for just over 2 years (he was 7 and 8 at the time) and his dosage was 30mg a day.

We switched to Straterra when he started to rage again and it's been over a year and so far, so good (knock on wood).

My sons doctor a pediatrician started him at 15 mg of Adderall XR.  It was a bit to much for him and he was brought down to 10 mg.  This didn't quite do the job so he takes both Adderall XR and Strattera now with pretty good results.  My doctor a psychiatrist started me on Adderall XR 15 mg but that did not do the job for me.  I am now up to 30 mg Adderall XR in the morning and 10 mg in the afternoon.
