Oh wow, I think I had a lil ADD moment in my last post...I suppose I didn't really finish it lol...
Timing your meds may be a little tricky b/c of sleep, etc. Some people find that if they take their meds too late they have issues falling asleep. I, personally fall asleep easier when my meds are still working b/c then my brain isn't racing 1000 miles a minute and I actually stay in bed, relax, and drift off. Noon is probably a good starting point as far as timing goes...If I were you, I would try taking them around that time and try to note how well it works...if meds wear off part-way through class or if you experience insomnia, then adjust timing accordingly.
As far as the peaks and troughs, if you are asking if the Concerta will be better than the quick-release, then the answer is almost definitely...that's part of the beauty of extended-release Plus, with long-acting, a person doesn't have to try to remember to keep taking meds b/c they're only needed once or twice!
Dunno if that'll help at all, but I thought I'd finish my post!
Best of luck to ya!
Hi My daughter has been on 54mg of Concerta for almost a year. School this year has not gone very well. she asked to switch her meds. Yesterday she started two 36 (72mg) in the am and said she is more focused. Although her friends asked her what was wrong as she was not her chipper self. She said she does not want the dosage higher if it is going to change her personality. Right now she is PMS so I told her to give it a week. I would not hesitiate to ask your doctor to try a higher dose. Only you can tell how you feel.
[QUOTE=deang008]Just so you know, methylphenidate hcl is a stimulant and the dose is NOT based on height and weight. The amount needed is based on the individual's brain's metabolism of the drug...So, there is no such thing as a "kids dose" because an individual child may require a larger dose than an adult to get equivalent efficacy. Oh, I didn't know that
, thanks!
HI,
IS CONCERTA A BETTER CHOICE TO OVOID THE PEAKS(UPS AND DOWNS)OF RITALIN. I'M SWITCHING TO 36MG OF CONCERTA FROM RITALIN, ALTHOUGH I THOUGHT MY DOC WAS GOING TO INCREASE MY DOSE. I DIDN'T ASK HIM TOO, BUT I WAS ON RITALIN 10 MG 3X A DAY FOR A MONTH. WHY DO YOU THINK HE LEFT IT AT 36? I TOLD HIM I FELT A LITTLE BETTER AND MY FOCUS HAS IMPROVED, MAYBE THAT'S WHY. I THOUGH 36MG IS LIKE A KID'S DOSE AND I JUST WANT SOMETHING FOR THE NEXT MONTH CAUSE THE SEMESTER IS ALMOST OVER!
LIKE, I PLANNED ON GOING ON 54MG OF CONCERTA AND "THEN" TO 34MG FOR THE SUMMER. SO, I GUESS I'LL BE ON THIS DOSE UNTIL NEXT SEMESTER, BUT I NEED THE BEST EFFECT NOW AND I DON'T WANT HIM TO THINK I'M A DRUG ADDICT BUT I THOUGHT THE 10MG 3X A DAY WAS TOO LOW FOR A 5FT7, 128LB, 29Y/O WOMAN. I HAVE TO PASS THIS CLASS, AND THAT'S ALL I'M WORRIED ABOUT. SHOULD I HAVE SAID SOMETHING?
OH, AND I TAKE CLASSES AT NIGHT FROM 4-9PM...SO WHAT TIME SHOULD I TAKE MY CONCERTA SO I CAN CONCENTRATE(HA HA, CONCERTA CONCENTRATE)IN CLASS. WOULD YOU SAY NOON! AND WILL THE PEAKS AND VALLEYS GO AWAY. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
Thanks guys for the response! Unfortunately, my insurance won't cover concerta but i'm starting a thread related to the story if you want to know!
