Hi Sandra, I'm new to this message board. I've had my daughter on Trazdone for quite awhile because she could not sleep at night. I hated it because it took her about  one hour to take effect, and then when she would sleep she would get up through the night and she would be an insomaic, up and down. Some one told me to get her tonsills looked at so i did come to find out her breathing was affected by her tonsills, i got her tonsills and adnoids removed and she now sleeps a lot better.but it takes her awhile to get to sleep but once she's asleep she is out all night. she acts a lot bettter durning the day too, has anyone ever told you that there tonsills can make them seem to have add? I checked into it on the web, it's weird beacuse it's all connected . I was told by our current Dr. don't remove tonsills and adnoides. Helped ours also though. She says if your child is getting sick alot check into a autoimmune disease. We are doing this this month. Our family gets thyroid problems which is one of the autoimmune diseases.Protein/complex carbs at dinner help sleeping. This is proven. Herbs also help no sideeffects also. I use chamomile tea with honey when I need a boost to sleep. Relaxing audio tapes also help. Look at some essential oils they are also great for different things also. I have read where many parents use these on their children. Some can also be placed in water in a humidafyer to be put in the air. daniel's mom38444.3345023148I have had a lot of issues with my little girl whom is 7 years of age with her ADHD meds and sleeping.Today i took her to see a child pshy. and they took her off of her ritalin la and put her on ritalin shorter acting 5 mg 2 times daily and she takes clonidine 0.1 mg and 3 mg of melatonin and he added trazodone 50mg for bedtime. He said to give her all of them at bedtime and we will wein her off the others slowly. She struggles BAD to sleep and i am really hoping this works.Do you know anything about Trazodone? If so could you please tell me what you think? Thanks so much!

Trazadone/Deseryl is an old school antidepressant. It is used in doses up to 600mg to treat depression, but it's effectiveness is questionable. Since it is extremely sedating, doctors have turned to using it as a hypnotic agent to help with sleep as a non-addictive alternative to tranquilizers. For sleep it is usually dosed at 50mg, although it can range from 25mg-100mg on average. I hated trazadone because if I took it for more than a couple of days in a row I started getting lethargic during the day. For many people, though, it's very effective.
