I am ready to go crazy here,my little girl is 7 years old,she was diagnosed with ADHD combined type 2 years ago and it has been a struggle with medications. She is on clonidine 0.1 mg,3mg of melatonin AND they started her on Trazodone 50mg all of that for bedtime and then they said they would wein her off of some because its not good to just stop her right at once.I know we all have hard times sleeping with ADHD but man what is it going to take to help her have more then 2 hours of sleep a night?I mean she had all of that at 830 and was a sleep by 10 and she is already up and wired for sound. Please anyone with suggestions help me please i beg someone to talk to me im am going crazy over here.

Sandra,
It is true you can't just stop the medications. Has your child been to a pediatric neurologist? If not that is the route to go. My daughter is now 32 years old and we had similar problems years ago and they did not have half the meds they do now. She takes several meds now and has to have one for sleep. She was 19 years old before she saw a ped. neurologist (and I am a nurse, I should have known better) we struggled from the time she was 6 years old.
Hang in there, remember, she doesn't want to be this way either.
PS I have ADHD so I know how hard it is but at age 55, have just started taking Adderal XR
pdcrnp,Thank you so much for writing me back.i will make the calls and that monday morning.I feel so bad for her and i just wish i could help her, thats what i am trying to do.If you do not mind me asking what did the pediatric neurologist do for your doctor?I really do not know much about that? What do they do?I feel so bad ,she actually cries because she can not sleep.I am ADD and she is ADHd and I am so aware that she does not want to be this way either and thats what im trying so hard to do is help her. Please when you can answer my questions i so much appreciate it.
