Anyone given Lamictal...for bi-polar | ADHD Information

Share

The Psyhcologist diagnosed ADHD and the referred psychiatrist prescribed Lamictal stating no ADHD but rather bi-polar. I know that cannot be as there is no "manic behavior" but rather he saw the depression part.

Anyone hear of a situation like this?

Without more information it is hard to know how to reply to you.  What behaviors does you son display that had him evaluated by the psychologist?  What did the psychiatrist see that made them change the diagnosis?

My 5 YO daughter has been prescribed Lamictal.  We originally thought she was ADHD but after having a really agitated response to Adderall XR 5 mg (18 months ago) we started looking into other possibilities.  She actually responded well to Antiphsychotic meds Risperdal and Abilify.  Unfortunately she also gained 20 lbs in one year.  Since November 2004 we have been trying to find a substitute that will have the same effect on improving her behaviors of aggression, irritability, absolute defiance when told NO and sleep disturbances.  All of these behaviors were pretty much there from birth.  She is currently on Geodon with which we have seen improvement but not as much as we would like.  We just increased the dosage but since then we have noticed an increase in he emotions.  She seems to cry at everything.  I am hoping this is just something that will happen until her body adjust to the new dosage.  There has also been a bit of weight gain and increased appitite.  I am watching that very closely.  It could be just because we had been on vacation.  I have a prescription for the lamictal which I am supposed to notify the psychiatrist before I fill if we don't see the desired results within a specified time frame.  I know it is an anticonvulsant medication which have been found to have excellent mood stabalizing qualities.

Hope that helps.  Gettingagrip
