Well, we need to think allot... and thinking about the same subjects just isn't stimulating enough. Perhaps that is why we have to find new ideas to think about...
I sometimes talk to another person who has been diagnosed with add who is also in my graduate school program. I noticed that we have both been much more idealistic than most for most of our lives so far.
I've become somewhat less idealistic since I began dealing with my add - but even now, I'm more so than most.
I don't know if it's just us or if idealism might be common amongst people with add.
I used to be idealistic. Then working in Corporate America beat it out of me. [QUOTE=yellowdog]
It's interesting - what I meant when I started this poll was "idealistic" as in wanting to do the "right" thing and expecting the best of people, etc.
Almost all teens are idealistic but truly idealistic people continue that way even as their peers learn otherwise. Then, when the idealistic person finally finds out that most people are really out for their own personal benefit, etc - they are "damaged".
Maybe it's just about "coming of age" much later than average.
Some of you answered the question related to the many ideas that you come up with.

I am so idealistic that I think that if people were truly out for their "own personal benefit" the world would be a much better place. People rarely seek their own happiness, they rather tend toward avoidance of pain or discomfort, which is usually connected to avoidance of themselves and inner troubles they are unwilling to face. Of true personal benefit would be the facing of those difficulties, rather than buying a new SUV or engaging in relationship after failed relationship in search of that ultimate perfect someone.
They have no farther to look than the little heart that beats in their chest to find that someone, I think.
I don't feel like it is immature in the least to be idealistic. Being fifty-five years old and snorting coke with an eighteen year old off the trunk of the new corvette you just bought after signing your third set of divorce papers, now that is immature.

Very idealistic! But can't Do anything about it. My latest idea was to grow marigold-eating chickens. Lutien-laced eggs are bright yellow and very good for helping avoid macular-degeneration which my father just came down with. Also I wonder if marigolds themselves are edible and ,,,,,see . I also have lots of ancient macs and can't bring myself to throw them away, thinking kids could have a blast designing web-graphics (using photoshop) on them....Take a photo of each kid, put it in the machine, and he could make big dreams with the background etc.

Since you said that... I've been going thru some situations lately that involved this kind of thinking. I jump head first into things, and I am having to understand that not everyone can change or want to change as fast as I do. I don't understand why people can be happy w/ 'status quo' instead of wanting to be their best.
I don't think I always want to do the "right" thing, but I have a helluva conscience...although I am far from an angel, LoL. But what is "right" to me is not always what is right to other people. I guess. And I do want the best out of people...I want them to live up to their potential, and I get frustrated when they don't. I've had a hard time understanding that some people can see the end result and not care or move slloooowwly towards it...because I just run.
I used to be very political and also idealistic.I had a hard time with this, LoL. I tend to have the general outlook of the glass is half full, and I am always thinking of...well, I'm just always thinking, LoL. So I do 'search' for options in any situation. And I try to see the positive side of things when it comes to other people's situations.
But on the flip side, I do know that I can be very jaded and overthink the potential negatives as well...but I then ovethink those as well and figure out how to make them positives...
I'm a very idealistic person. I think that people can solve their problems if they get the right motivation, and I always end up looking on the bright side. There isn't really anything that bothers me alot about people.
