Adderall losing effectiveness? | ADHD Information

Actually, I found that when I did give him weekends off, my son did poorly on Monday.  His body had to adjust to the medication again, and he was tired and complained of stomach aches.

Try to give them weekends off with no medicine, it seems to make the dose on monday effective again.

My 7-year old son's been on adderall for 4 weeks.  Week 1 was a rocky start.  Week 2 was fantastic, great focus and attention in school.  Week 3 also great.  But now at week 4, it seems like his body is getting used to the drug, and the effects aren't as dramatic.  He's has this problem with other medications, too.  Is this common?

hmmm typically a person's body does not build a tolerance that quickly; however, it is possible that he hasn't reached his peak dose yet. Sometimes the change from no meds to any meds is so exciting that people stop when they indeed have not reached the correct dose. On the other hand, some people up their dose too quickly; which I believe is even worse.

Perhaps upping his dose a little would help with the symptoms...I would suggest talking to his dr. though before you take anyone's advice as to what measures should be taken.

Best of luck to ya!

My 9 year old son had a similar response to Adderall.  Our psychiatrist suggested upping the dosage, but we haven't yet been able to do that because he lost some weight on Adderall.  So I'm going to agree you may just need to tweak the dosage.
