ADD Injuries? (light-hearted) | ADHD Information

I was posting about working out, and the thought crossed my mind...

Has anyone ever injured themselves from not paying attention?  Hopefully not too serious, I know I am always doing goofy stuff.

I run into walls...and going around corners can be rough, LoL.  I've gone thru screen doors.  I actually knocked myself out at a vet I worked at in high school...forgot about the kennel door, stood up, and woke up 5 minutes later.  Actually, I tend to always have bruises and no idea where they came from, LoL...I'm quite clutzy, I guess.  I actually had an MRI on my brain because I hit my head so much...came back "unremarkable" which while great...was also very bad for the ego! hehe

LMAO. I've run right into screen doors, and put my knee through a glass window once, severing a major vein.... plus I'm just a big clutz in general, banging limbs and head on various pieces of wall and furniture. So that'd be a big YES.

LoL, Sonya...don't worry...I have learned to laugh at everything. haha

I'm always telling people about my mishaps, I figure if they miss it, they should still get the laugh, LoL.  My best friend and I always say....if we see you fall, we'll see if you're OK, and if not, take you to the hospital...but don't be offended if we laugh on the way there!

I also love shoes and live in 4" heels (mind you, I'm already 5'10")...and I can actually run better in them than tennis shoes....but I have fallen in them a lot...uneven sidewalks, slippery floors, etc....blah, I trip on air!  Good thing I don't get embarrassed by it anymore, LoL....well, usually not...

I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this, although I guess it can be painful at times, LoL.

bcgirl...I guess I'm lucky enough that I never get those impulses...oddly enough, I'm too afraid that I'd get hurt!

I haven't been on a bike in years, last time I tried, I didn't make it 3 feet...but I used to bust my butt all the time when I was younger on mine.  I like the stationary kind these days....for about 5 minutes.
As an adult, I constantly walk into walls and cabinets, trip and fall, and have chipped my teeth. Recently, I had a bruise on my forehead from running into the post on a 4 poster bed that was literally a foot and a half away from the path I was taking through the room!
I am SO glad I'm not the only one who has been walking into walls most my life! And absolutely, chicx0r, aren't those corners the Worst!? My hips or upper arms are constantly B&B. I'm also always black & blue from tripping or falling, Chocoholic! I can't even imagine how many times I've hit my head. (pretty hard head, I guess) Amazing I haven't done brain damage (Although....hmmmm) And here I always thought I was just a clutz.

And those clothes racks that are squished so tightly together in WalMart! Ouch!

I'm just so glad to know I'M NOT ALONE!!!

.....i;m so sorry this happened to you....

....but....

................

.....LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oK, I'm done...I wasn't laughing AT you, I was laughin WITH you......it was a good thing you weren't seriously hurt...

but I have done things like this, Like I was riding a bike behind my friend, and my hair was blowing in my face, and I was trying to swing my head to get my hair out of my eye...(something that you should not do on a bike...), and then my friend said she was just talking to me, and she looked back, and I was gone, and then she stopped and went back and looked for me, and found me in a ditch flat on my back with the bike still in position over top of me, i was still clutching the handle bars.  just like somehow, both me and the bike had, like flipped perfectly upside down and both landed in the ditch.....i don't know what happened, all i know is one minute my hair was in my eye and then next minute I was in the ditch.

My friend can still make people tear up with laughter over that to this very day.

Riding my bike home one night about 8pm, wasn't paying attention and veered to the side of the road and rode straight into the back of a parked car. No serious injuries, but VERY painful.

Oh man, dont even get me started, my list of injuries is so long!!

As a kid, I split my forehead open, ripped all the nails off one hand (they grew back and look beautiful, in case you have horrible visions of this), broke and fractured numerous bones, sprained my ankle and wrist so frequently that they took years to heal, constantly fell out of trees, and was so covered with bruises that my parents were accused of abuse more than once!

As an adult, I constantly walk into walls and cabinets, trip and fall, and have chipped my teeth. Recently, I had a bruise on my forehead from running into the post on a 4 poster bed that was literally a foot and a half away from the path I was taking through the room!

Can you tell my adhd falls into the 'somewhat severe' category??    Miraculously, I'm not very klutzy. However, my impulsivity and poor sense of judgement got me injured on more than one occasion.

I broke my collar bone when I was five, by spinning one of those tire swings around and around as fast as I could. I knew I was going too fast, but didn't care because I was having fun. Then I lost my grip and landed shoulder-first on the hard pavement.

I dislocated my hip when I was about 7 or 8 - I thought it would be fun to jump off the roof of my neighbour's garage. I was on crutches for 2 weeks. It didn't look that high....

I got stitches in my knee by walking tightrope-style across a rock wall by my grandmother's house, and falling off and landing in the rocky ditch below.

I got a matching set of stitches a couple of years later on my other knee after I'd been swinging too fast around a pole, and of course lost my grip and landed on more rocks...

There was more, but I'd probably take up the entire page. I know most kids do these sorts of things from time to time, but it seemed like every trip to the ER that I can remember for injuries were the preventable kind.
I misjudge corners and slam my hip into them while I am walking with a pained, perplexed, deep-in-thought look on my face. When I was a kid my folks asked  the DR. if I had weak bones  because I had broken so many. The Dr.  said no, he's just accident prone.  I find mystery bruises all the time   on my legs. I bump into stuff  because i am paying  attention to other things than walking, go OW, forget it,  notice a bruise later all the timeI ran off a roof once...oops ran off a flat roof once  looking over my shoulder..lucky there were hedges Well, I did a dumb thing yesterday...but with my car.  My roommate, who hasn't been home in a while....was able to stop by for a few hours (he's on the road).  He gets here, his computer's messed up...he's in a hurry....then as I am leaving to go back to work, I hit his grandmother's car!  I was making sure I didn't hit his, and BAM.  I felt so bad, but it's all OK.  I was just thinking how I've been doing good w/ cars lately....luckily it wasn't too bad, and she wasn't upset.  But... I feel horrible.

Chapter 1:

It was a beautiful, sunny Friday afternoon.  I had just finished my last class of the day.  It was in a house at the top of a rather steep grassy hill.  The hill ended at the road.  I was whizzing down the hill at top speed overjoyed at the end of classes and planning my weekend in my head.  Unfortunately I forgot about the drainage ditch between the end of the hill and the beginning of the road till I hit it going full speed and got catapulted over my handle bars, landing on my stomach, hands just over the shoulder and into the road itself.  Got up relatively uninjured (with just a couple of scrapes and a sore shoulder), picked up my bike and rode off to enjoy my weekend (I guess I should have taken a bow for the person walking in the opposite direction; at least she stopped to see if I was alright!)

Chapter 2:

Minature golf course, middle of summer.  My friend had just taken her shot.  I saw her ball land in the stream, slowly floating towards the water fall and oblivion.  I jumped up off the bench to retrieve it before it met its fate.  Unfortunately, there was a large, knee high boulder between me and my target and I took a spectacular fall over it; my chin bounced off of the rubber of my golf club and I hurt my shoulder *again*.  I guess it must have looked pretty bad, because when I got up laughing, there was dead silence, and everyone within view was slightly pale and staring at me.
