Survey of Adderall XR dosage amt - Adults | ADHD Information

I take 40mg of Adderall xr 2x a day.

It does take some experimenting to get the right dose but I'd recommend sticking with one dose for a few days at least a week ideally then try a different dose wait again and so on. This way you can have a better feel of exactly what each dose dose for you. I take the same amount everyday and still have days where it feels like everything sucks and the meds don't work. If you test each dose over a couple days you'll get a more accurate view of how the meds will help.

Also there is no reason to take a small amount if it's not helping. If you don't want to take larger amounts it's better to stop altogether and either try a different med or deal on your own. No sense putting medication in your body if it's not helping.
When Adderall XR was available in Canada, I took 70mg per day.  Worked like a charm.  Don't be afraid of taking too much.  Your body will tell you if you are.

I have been going through the same thing.... I take 20mg adderall and doc said to at least take 40... but i rather take less... I have some other health issues although I am not sure what they are so I always think maybe it's the adderall.. One thing is I am freezing all the time and I lost weight so I have no fat for insulation... but I don't know if wt loss is from adderall/college (i am 43) or digestive disorder.... so It is complicated... I get irritable and shakey when I first increase dose but then it levels out ... but then I get worried the medication is not healthy to take so I take less.... it's a struggle.... but I get really depressed when I don't take it and I think that's because my ADD symptoms are worse....

Ok I am rambling cuz I have to go to class....I think I'll take the other 20 mg... ok that's another point... sometimes I take 40 in the AM sometimes 20 then 4 hrs later 20... or sometimes just 20mg in am or late morning... or...20 mg in am and then 20 mg of ritalin short acting at 3pm... whew!

ok

good luck everyone.

I just increased my dose from 20 to 30 and have not seen any significant improvement.  I will give it awhile longer since I don't see my psych for 8 weeks but I don't have much hope for any improvement.

Susan, I've struggled with the very same thing.

My doc considers 40 mg per day "a pretty good wallop" but there are days when 40 mg doesn't do it and 60 mg does.  Given that it's an amphetimine I do worry about building some sort of tolerance level that will require an even higher dose, but I keep it at that.

Also do yourself a favor and accept the fact that, possibly, you might not be able to figure this out on your own.  I've been there, done that...good luck

Hello:

If you don't mind, I would be interested in hearing from others what dosage of Adderall XR is most effective for you (I am speaking to the adults taking Adderall XR on this forum), and at what times of the day you take your Adderall XR.

My doctor gave me permission to "experiment". The fact is, I am reluctant to take "too much" and I think I am undermedicating myself as a result. I have never taken more than 30 mg a day, and still feel "stuck" much of the time. I often only take 10 or 20 mg; which might be self-defeating behaviour. It's enough to get me in gear, but not enough to keep me going without a lot of internal badgering.

I wonder if I am undermedicating myself because I like to "beat myself up" with internal talk.

Does all of this sound like I am just crazy???

My doctor says some of his patients take as much as 60 mg a day, but from what I have read on this forum thusfar, I havn't seen any mention of anyone taking more than 30 mgs of Adderall daily.

I would appreciate any and all feedback. I would really like to get an idea of what helps others get out of states of "mental paralysis".

I think a part of me is fighting taking medication because I feel it's somehow cheating, that I ought to be able to get things done if I just had enough selfwill and determination. I *know*, intellectually, that my ADHD is real and biological, but emotionally I feel like I should be able to overcome my ADHD tendencies (or laziness) without medication.

Thanks in advance.

Susan

I've been taking 30 mg of adderall xr for almost 2 weeks now and it lasts me about 10-12hrs.  It's seems to be more potent than ritalin, and I'm goint to give myself a chance to get used to it.  If I still have this sort of "fuzzy" feeling in my head as opposed to ritalin(clear headed) i'm swiching back.  BTW, my insurance won't cover concerta and I hate taking 3 pills a day so that's why I'm on adderall xr.  I do notice some improvement in focus, but a little fuzzy, I can't explain it.  Kinda, drowsy but focused.

I'm somewhat relieved to hear that some are taking more than 40mg per day...my doc views this as a pretty heavy dose, and I'm afraid that if I say something more than that might be better he'd suspect some sort of abuse.  Fact is, 40 is barely doing it and some days I've gone to 60 or 80.  Has anyone else done the same thing and told their doctor?I tell my doctor cus i don't want to get hit with some side effect or health problem that neither of us was prepared for. Usually the reason doctors are leary about prescribing ADD meds is because they don't specialize in ADD and don't really know much about the meds or current trends in treatment. It always good to be cautious but there is being cautious because it is the right and safe thing to do and there is being cautious because they don't know what they are doing so they're afraid to make a mistake.

I'd be suspicious of any doctor that won't try certain medications. For some reason people seem to accept this behavoir from doctors when treating ADHD. Of course if our doctors refused to prescribe penicillin or another common drug we'd instantly question why.

Concerta is a different form of a stimulant compared to adderallxr.  Concerta is methylphenidate(which IS ritalin) and adderall is and amphtetamine.  Different people respond to these drugs positively or negatively.  And I think ritalin works better for me.

I was just refering to the comment about  having to take 3 pills a day of concerta but one of adderall xr. Lol think I confused myself, nevermind  usually by the time I get to these boards my brain is pretty done for the day< ="">
