Channel Surfing anyone?? | ADHD Information

Share

I'm a notorious channel surfer...same with the radio in the car, always changing stations, much to the consternation of anyone in the passenger seat.

Always hesitant to blame my "impatience" with things on ADD, just curious if anyone else does the same thing??

I'm not a channel surfer - I can never pry the remote from my wife's grasp.  I don't listen to the radio in the car either, the inane babble of the presenters gets on my nerves - I use the CD player instead.

Mark -

If usually don't surf channels, because I only watch TV when I know that something is on... but If I were the type that could sit down for more than 15 minuts infront of the TV I would propably surf all the time...

But I don't watch TV... not much catches my interest on the TV, so why bother...
I am always flipping through the channel, and then I found out that television can actually fuel your ADD and make it harder to focus. Now, instead of watching television at night, I read books on Adult ADD or finance while my wife watches TV. It has actually helped me focus more for some reason. I feel a lot less "foggy headed" for some reason now and I attribute that to reading material that is interesting to me.
Hi! Shock,
Right On! Television drives me into boring twait unless their is something
"Questioning" on. prefer to surf net or read, do word puzzles.... anything other
than the square box.... Ah! torture. Going to read Ans.to Distraction, latest offering.
Cheers! Oh! yeah Welcome to this little but growing gang on the Boards.

Funny-I was just discussing this with someone last week. I drive my poor husband crazy with my constant channel flipping. I use the back button to usally watch 2 shows at one time and then during commercials or slow parts race through all the other channels. Radio is the same way catching about a second of each song,  but I usally can't find anything I like so I listen to cds which are thrown about my car!I'm really bad about flipping channels too.  Even when I do find something I want to watch I'll flip to another channel once a commercial comes on (I can't stand most commercials).  It's "just until the commercial is over", but I usually forget that I was watching something and flip to something else.

To make things worse, the video card in my computer has a built in TV tuner.  So, I can watch TV and surf the Internet at the same time.

Hello- I'm brand new here, but saw this and just had to post. I am constantly flipping the channels and driving my husband crazy. Poor guy.  Plus, I can only take the half hour shows, where he can sit and watch a movie or sporting event. Something like that drives me nuts. Too much attention is put into focusing. I do like the idea about reading at night instead. Maybe that would help me relax enough to sleep and then I won't have to stay up until 2 or 3 in the morning trying to get tired.

I can usually turn the TV on and sit still through a whole program if its comedy or sci-fi etc. It has a mesmerizing effect. Of course I won't remember it all, but visual stimulus I always remember more clearly than verbal. The 3 things on tv I can sit and watch all of is SpongeBob Squarepants, Nascar and hockey. Then again, all three of those I mentioned are non-stop action/movement the entire show...unless it's a caution flag or red flag in Nascar, then I flip through the channels. Oh, and I will watch Food Network's Rachel Ray...Rrrrrrrrrrowl.   :)
Cheers! Oh! yeah Welcome to this little but growing gang on the Boards.
Can you believe it? ... This 'little gang' is now 5,100+ members! Less than three months ago, it was only 3,400. And who says AdultADD doesn't exist?

I wish I had the nerve to toss my TV into the dumpster.
