YOU MEAN I'M NOT LAZY, STUPID OR CRAZY?!: A Self-help Book for Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder by Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo
I put that one on "hold" at my library last night. Tried to put Driven From Distraction on hold but there are 5 people ahead of me!

Read "healing add" by Dr. Amen.....

bad title for a good book.....IT'S NOT A HOAX ACTUALLY CLAIMING TO HEAL ADD!!  (you all know how I feel about stupid hoaxes.....)

actually, this doc does routine brain scans on his patients and has grouped ad/hd into 7 main subtypes based on his scans of the brain.  very intrigueing.  ...his "SPECT" scans of the brain PROVE THAT AD/HD IS NOT JUST A "STATE OF MIND" OR A "WEAK MUSCLE THAT NEEDS TO BE EXCERCISED!".... (We all know of the woes of folks out their trying to convince us that ad/hd is just "bad parenting" or "developmental issues">)...Dr. Amen shows us that even though ad/hd is pretty much invisible to the naked eye, it is very much real, and his pictures of the brain prove this.

very good solid scientific research, and also many treatment options....also check out his website

sonya_h38453.8043634259Delivered from Distraction by the authors of "Driven to Distraction" Someone mentioned a famous ADD book thats on video, does any recall the name of it? I might have to track that down. This isnt an adhd book, but it describes the various types of learning and how our brain works and I found it almost more helpful than any of the other books.

"A Mind at a Time" by Mel Levine. He pretty much talks about the minds of children, since that's who he works with. But, it was great for me to be able to pinpoint areas of strength and weakness in myself. The chapters on attention and types of memory were especially helpful.
I put that one on "hold" at my library last night. John....5 people ahead of you isn't many at all! They can't renew as long as there are others waiting (like you!) And they probably have more than once copy of that book. I once was on hold for a book that had 35 people ahead of me! But it was worth the wait.

I put that one on "hold" at my library last night. Actually, it's good since I have 2 other ADD books to read right now:  ADD and Creativity and ADD in the Workplace, both by Lynn Weiss Ph.D. I figure that by the time the other 5 are done reading the book that I will be done with mine. I was just suprised that there were that many people interested in my little library!
Delivered from Distraction by the authors of "Driven to Distraction"
Ah! someone who has read Delivered from Distraction.
Would Really appreciate your opinion on this book. Why? well it is not in local book
stores where i am and so I will have to import it. Thus i would value your opinion
on it before i spend money on it for our Support Group's Library. All Opinions of it
by ADHDers and their families would be great. Favour will be recipricated.

Cheapest place besides library of course for any of these books is ebay. Books get sold dirt cheap on there< =""> Honestly, while I liked the 'feeling of hope' that the author put into delivered from distraction, I didnt actually like the book. He put in a lot of 'well I dont have any evidence that ____ works (fill in vitamin supplements, brain training, etc) it sure seems to make sense that it would and it sure seemed like it made me/my uncle/my cousin's monkey feel better." Well, I sure think that consuming large amounts of chocolate makes me feel better, but I'm not going to write it into a book and have thousands of people waste their time and health by recommending it. I also didnt like the idea that we should treat dealing with adhd like a 12 step program. Addictions, yes, adhd, no.
Guess the book just had a little too high of a flake factor for me. Hi John! I haven't read any of the books yet that I've seen recommended on this forum, but "Driven to Distraction" seems to be a popular one. If you go to Amazon.com, and search for Adult ADD or ADHD, there will be a list of books also. There are also some past topics on this forum about books on the subject. Good luck.

I look forward to reading some of these once my meds are working enough for me to sit down and read. GypsyWomyn38453.4300694444Yep, got that one, read it and used little Post-it tapes to mark the pages that related to me...that book is one massive mess of red Post-it tapes!  :)
I am also reading a book about ADD at work and how you can make ADD work for you in the workplace. Very interesting. The more I research Adult ADD, the more things I find that help make my world make more sense.
