has anyone had sucess with concerta? | ADHD Information
I TALKED TO A YOUNG MAN ABOUT MY SON'S AGE WHO HAD BEEN ON ADDERALL RX AND HE HAD TROUBLE WITH HIS ANGER AND EVEN ALMOST CHOKED HIS SISTER WHILE ON IT!! CONCERTA IS WORKING BETTER FOR HIM.Concerta doesn't work for me. Soon after i began Conerta 27, I was
switched to Conserta 36 and it still doesn't work. I can't concentrate
during and after school when I need to get my homework done. I'm
moody, low self-esteam is coming back, not to mention Im not eating
(due to feeling like Im going to throw up whenever I eat or drinking
something) and losing weight. (luckily, Im seeing my doctor soon).
Good luckI AM STARTING TO WONDER IF EVERY MED HAS THE SIDE EFFECT OF MOODINESS!! IS THERE ANY HOPE TO BE ON THE MEDS TO FIX WHAT NEEDS FIXED AND STILL BE A NICE PERSON? MY SON WAS ALWAYS SUCH A SENSITIVE GUY AND VERY LOVING. I MISS THAT PART OF HIM!!!Not every med has moodiness as a side effect. I took adderall xr for some
time and I was perfectly mellow. PLEASE TELL ME MORE ABOUT CONCERTA. MY SON IS 16 AND STRATERRA SEEMS TO BE MAKING HIM VERY MOODY, AGGRESSIVE AND COMBATIVE. HE IS A BIG KID AT 6'2'' 180 LBS. IT IS SCARY SOMETIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN HE TAKES THINGS OUT ON HIS 15 YR OLD SISTER. MAKES ME SO SAD AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THEY(BOCES) AT SCHOOL ARE DOING SOME MORE TESTING AND THEN WE ARE BRINGING HIM OFF OF IT. NOW I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OTHER DRUGS FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR THAT DON'T HAVE THE MOODY SIDE-EFFECTS. I HAVE HEARD SOME GOOD THINGS ABOUT CONCERTA AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE. THANKSWell my son is 12 and he was on Concerta and it worked wonders however I had the same problem, my son system breaks the concerta down too quickly. So now he is on another form of Ritilan it starts with an L, please forgive me for not being able to give the name I'm at work and it excapes me at the moment, I dont really care for this one by the way. Howerver, my son has taken Adderall XR and it make him very violent so I IMMEDIATELY took him off. I just wish that we could find the appropriate dose of Concerta without his system breaking it down so quickly, in a matter of 3 hours his system breaks it down completely. So I'm still searching. My son who is now 12 has been on Concerta for 3 years. We first tried Ritialin, but it gave him ticks and I didn't like that it had to be taken 2 times a day. I think this medication is right for my son, but that doesn't mean it is right for everyone. You should give it a week and see what happens, and if you are not convinced your dr. might try to up the dose, or try a different med. For the most part I think it is trial and error until you find the right one. Every one is different on every mediciation. Hang in there, when you find the right one, you will know it.
I have a 7 year old and he is now taking 63mg of concerta and we could not get though life without it he have had him on other meds but concerta is right for him, when i was reading your message I knew that your son needed more mg of the concerta, that is how my son responded on it , also my son was a lightweigh but now he has gain weight but at first he lost weight I was very concerned about him but that changed with time after he had taken the meds for about 6 months just hang in and keep track of how your son is doing and make sure that the Dr. knows what is going on with your son on this med. NOT to scare you but my BIG problem is my son has developed a BIG FEAR of things like ,dogs cats, bugs, and that has made if very hard to have him outside or around anyone that he don't know. If anyone reads this and can help me on this problem please do so.

But like you said, everyone responds differently. What if the medication
just doesn't work well as it does with others? Not everybody wants to see
a psychiatrist who specializes in meds. The studies I've seen suggest that Concerta works for more than 90%
provided the right dose is used. Everyone responds differently - if you're
not getting response you may need a higher dose. It's really useful to be
treated by a psychiatrist who specializes in either ADHD or pediatric
psychiatry because they have more experience with these drugs. My son has been on many medications in six years, but concerta has been the only one that has worked. He is now 11 and takes 72. mg. every day, two 36 pills in the morning. The Dr. had to fight with the insurance company just to get the prescription, but this is the only medicine that works, hopefully it won't stop because I'm not sure how much higher they can increase it!I THINK I WILL CALL MY INSURANCE CO BEFORE WE GO TO THE DOCTOR AGAIN AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT CONCERTA, SO I CAN BE READY IF WE NEED A LETTER OR SOMETHING TO GET IT. I AM JUST SO CONFUSED AS TO WHAT TO DO. MITCH SAID THEY DID THE TESTING AT SCHOOL, BUT SHE HASN'T CALLED ME YET SO I DON'T KNOW THE RESULTS. I JUST KEEP PRAYING THAT GOD WILL LEAD ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!For me Concerta is much. much better than Ritalin.
It works and I don't get grumpy and nasty.Yeah I agree if concerta is no good for him but ritalin was working I'd
go back to that just add another dose so it will last longer.
For insurance my insurance denied Adderall too until my doctor wrote a
letter saying it was necessary for me to take it because the other
alternatives didn't work. Insurance companies don't want to pay for
adderall cus it's the most expensive.
Of course if he never tried Adderall I don't know if that would help
him since people usually respond differently to ritalin and adderall
usually if one works the other doesn't. Not in all cases of course but
if Ritalin works might not be worth the hassle to get adderall just to
find out it's not going to work.
my son who is almost 6 started concerta last friday(he's a lightweight 37 lbs),the first day was like he had'nt taken anything at all maybe a little worse than with no meds. so i thought give it another day and see ,the next day same thing,he would run back and forth,i'd tell him to stop and he'd say i can't mommy,i can't control my brain.he's been on ritalin since fall(10mgs twice a day),that works great except it wears off so quickly,i called the dr today and told them about how he was and she said he needs an increase to 36 mgs. i wanted adderall xr but insurance won't pay and the new dr. won't give it to any patients due to the canada thing. so is there anyone who has sucess with concerta and and downsides i should know about before i try to give him this again. i so hoped this would be great like the ritalin just longer lasting, mornings and evening on ritalin are horrible for us. thanks for any insight....tHE PEOPLE i TALK WITH SAY CONCERTA OVER STRATTERA WORKS BETTER.If the ritilan was working so well, couldn't they have increased his dosage of that? At least the second dose? Or have him take it 10mg 3x a day? Or 10, 10, and 5? I've never taken it, but have read of these different dosages.
I take concerta, but I'm a heavyweight adult, so I won't even tell you much about my experience, except it does last me 12 hours, I sleep well now, and it seems to be working pretty well. And I also take an antidepressant and mood disorder med along with the Concerta.
Good luck!
