Poll: most hated chore | ADHD Information

Share
I dont think I can set up one of the little fancy polls for this one bc there are so many types of chores. But, I'm just wondering what drives everyone bonkers to have to do, if its the same type of stuff and what you've done to make it easier.

I absolutely detest emptying the dishwasher. For some reason, it just agitates the hell out of me! (Of course, its much better than when we didnt have a dishwasher and I had to do all the dishes by hand, artfully arrange them to dry and THEN put them away)

I also detest ironing beyond reason. Its so tedious. Wish we had enough $ to take everything to the cleaners! I'm making this bearable by ironing one item, playing one level of an internet game like tetris, then another item, another level of game, etc.

ME TOO! Emptying the dishwasher (when I had one) was as bad as my trying to get the dishes washed these days by hand.    I never understood that.

Sorry, Chocoholic, can't think of any chore that ISN'T my worst. Oh, maybe doing laundry is my worst worse , but that's only because I need to get everything together, and then make sure there's a washer empty at the clubhouse in our RV park, and then carry it all over there before someone else takes the washers. Urgh!

ah, the lovely blessing that is a dishwasher...this is a NECESSITY for us ad/hders, i believe...i lived for 2 or 3 years with one, when I was first married, and now I have been going on 2 years without one....IT IS SORELY MISSED..

but me and my husband (both ad/hd) hated to empty it to....we solved that problem...we just didn't.  nope, we didn't empty it at all, we used it to store our dishes in.  we just went in there and grabbed a dish when ever we needed one--and then just washed it in the sink and rinsed it and put it back into the dishwasher...

it was only occassionally that the thing did get emptied, if we had an enormously large batch of filthy dishes in the sink waiting for their turn...then we would empty it in order to use it for the large batch of dishes....but it was very rare. I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT I HATE IRONING TOO!

sonya_h38453.5720717593I hate doing the dishes, nothing is worse than that. But I mostly use paper plates so I can avoid having to clean them. Finish eating and toss everything in the trash lol makes things so much easier

I couldnt resist this one.

LAUNDRY!!!

I cant wait until we can afford a maid.  I have 3 little girls and those ity bity socks alone drive me crazy.  Not to mention those little undershirts and underwear.  I still have to do them though, any yes right now there all in piles.

Dishes arent my favorite either, my husband thought he would get me to do them by not repairing the dishwasher, guess whose doing dishes, not me.  I eat off of paper plates.

Have a Great Day!

I have to say, I HATE cleaning house. It is the biggest pet peeve I have. I shouldnt be like that but i can't help it lol. I'm ADD what can I say? I can't concentrate on cleaning for long and get easily distracted with something else. Cleaning BORES me. I can handle laundry, I want to learn to cook more, I can do dishes etc easier but i think cleaning is the worst. I soo want to hire a maid when I have more money lol. I would love having a dishwasher. Right now I'm in an apartment where I have to wash dishes by hand. it is horrible. :)  lol Mafia, I'm the same way with plates. I lovee paper plates. my fiance doesnt though. He prefers the real plates so usually I stick with those(now that I ran out of paper ones. I am however, going to get more at the store soon). I dont like ironing either. I usually try to wear things I dont have to iron. lol. Anyway but I can handle most of this stuff. It's just the whole cleaning house thing...BORING. i hate it :). I do keep the apartment somewhat straightened though. Its a bit cluttered but not disastrous or anything lol.

They are all good ones, but for me...

Food shopping

From taking the time out to go to the store, to being anoyed I bought to much. Carrying them up three flights of stairs, through two keydoors and one small dog gate. Putting everything in its proper place, and of course cleaning out the fidge and counters of any food we didn't finish off before putting in the fresh.

Its always a three hour ordeal...

I would do two loads of socks in the washer to avoid this any day >LOL, but thats

me.

Basically I hate any part of a job that involves tidying up afterwards.

I like hanging washing on the line, but I hate how you then have to take it off the line, iron and put away and sort out the socks.

I like packing the dishwasher but I hate having to unpack it later.

I like buying groceries but I hate having to put them in the cupboard.

I like sewing, but I hate having to clean up all the cottons on the carpet after.

I would like to be a famous artistic person who gets an assistant to prepare everything. I just turn up, create something wonderful and then go home and I get all the money. Then I get some assistants to clean everything up.

I iron each morning as I need it.  When I do it that way, and only that way, it's ok.

What I really hate is washing dishes by hand - I really love the electric dishwasher.

I also hate sorting through the mail and paying bills, etc.  It helps to do this while I'm watching a movie.

LOL I do hate ironing but must admit that I barely ever iron anything so it didn't even enter my mind. Laundry I don't really mind so much cus you just throw it in the machine and forget it till it's done. And yardwork I kind of enjoy cus I'm outside and active.

Oh I do hate making the bed though. I don't do it everyday, but after I wash and dry the sheets it feels like such a pain to have to make the bed.

Oh and giving the dogs a bath. My dogs are bad bad bad so bath time is not fun lol.
I really don't like folding clothes--I've made it some better by folding
them while watching a movie or soemthing on TV (which takes care of 2
things--I am occupied while staying interested in a TV show!) THEN--
you still have to put them away!!

I also dislike cleaning the kitty litter--and I'm a Vet so I know how
important it is!! But it is in the basement and I always get distracted by
the time I get to it--the only time I RUSH to do it is when kitty has some
stinky poo--then you CAN'T forget about it!

Ironing is the absolute most extruciating task on the planet, followed closely by folding and putting away laundry that will soon be strewn about the house anyway.litter box. And paying bills.

LoL, this is funny.  I actually like to clean and do laundry, but I'm a neat freak....so it's a battle w/ my ADD and that...hehe

I hate doing any yardwork...I'll con anyone into doing it for me, LoL. But I dislike dishes, too...I think that is leftover from childhood.  And taking out the trash....I went a month w/o taking it to the curb...I'd forget.  Before that, my roommate always did it really...so honestly, I think in a year, I've only taken it down 3 times, hehe.  I didn't even know pick-up day changed from Wed to Fri until 2 months after the fact, LoL.

Putting away the washed, dried and folded clothes.  It used to be doing the bills--but after my wife made me take  a turn  at it, I no longer have that chore.
ghead
< =""> Sorting & putting away anything at all. Scrubbing things down isn't bad, but picking up is awful. This includes sorting laundry, dishwasher, sorting crap on the floor, you name it.ANY HOUSEWORKWE DON'T IRON TIL WE NEED THE ITEMOUR KIDS HAVE TO PUT UP THERE OWN STUFF ALL OF IT. iF THEY DON'T THEY DON'T HAVE IT. HE DIDN'T LIKE HOW I DID IT WHEN I DID THINGS.THIS IS SO i CAN'T ALSO USE ANY MONEY HE MAKES ALSO. I HAVE NON UNTIL I MAKE SOME MY SELF. hE NOW HAS ALL THE RESPONSABILITIES REGARDING MONEY. HE LACKS CONCERNS ON THIS SUBJECTREGARDING MY FEELINGS.daniel's mom38453.6777314815Oh My God! I can not deal with mail, paperwork and that stuff! It's
everywhere! I hate it. I wish I could be organized... I have been for small
periods in that way... But I can't keep it up.
I can organize other things much better but the mounds of paper that
accumulate... And when I need to get paper work together for somethiing,
like a loan or medical etc.... it's just a DRAG!

I also hate to iron my clothes which is a drag since it almost all needs a
touch up at least!
Oh well... keep on keeping on everyone!
AnnieLaundry, laundry, and laundry!

It sucks and I won't touch it with a 10-foot pole unless I absolutely have to. Thank God my boyfriend does it.

Ok, my idea of Hell would be hanging up clothes and putting pillows in pillow cases!ALL of my clothes are shoved in drawers, and ironing is aweful too!!!So I use the spray dewrinkler or the drier. Putting dishes away grates my nerves as well, luckily my husband does the kitchen clean up.Coming home late at night and finding out the sheets are on the line. I just want to fall into nice bed, not have to make it first, I really hate that the most. Agh, I forgot about ironing.  I iron wrinkles into clothes...and those are hard to iron out!! LoL  Anyone use that Downy Wrinkle Releaser stuff?  I keep forgetting to buy it (LoL), but I used that stuff all the time a while back. Now I just use the dryer, steam from the shower, or walk around in my wrinkled clothes w/ confidence (they are supposed to be that way!).Scrubbing the bathtub!  I have a big problem with floors too.  It's not that I hate vacuuming and mopping in particular, but by the time I actually manage to get everything picked up off the floor so I can do it, I feel like I have already done a full day's worth of work and I never get around to the mop or vacuum.  The dishwasher is my best friend.  I never had one until a few years ago, and I absolutely detest doing dishes more than anything.  I still get a little happy feeling at putting away clean dishes that I didn't have to wash.  Ironing, well I don't do it.  Laundry is not really a chore, it is just a revolving pile of stuff.  The chore is hunting through the clean stuff on top of the dryer every morning trying to find socks.

IRONING STINKS!

I used to rebel, and only iron at Christmas. Then my husband got a job where he has to wear dress shirts and slacks,,,,, I AM NOW IN IRONING HELL .

And I still can't do it right either.

WOW! All of my favorite "hate to do's" are listed here! Except ironing.....I've never done that # 1 on my list is laundry. All that seperating colors and whites ( and still at least once a yr. I manage to ruin all my hubbys white underwear b/c of something I missed). Than putting it all away. It really dosen't sound all that bad, but to me it JUST PLAIN SUCKS! I try to think of the days I had to drive to a laundermat. For about 5 minutes I think "I'm glad I have a washer & dryer in the garage", but with my attention span, it's sucks again real soon.

Emptying the dishwasher is second. I still can't figure it out, I mean it's not hard, it just SUCKS.

Great thread! Now I feel "normal"

It is not getting the dishes into the dishwasher that is is problem - or the laundry through the washer and dryer....it is both PUTTING THE CLEAN STUFF AWAY!

The way to clean ADHD style:

bedroom:

step 1 - lift dust ruffle on bed

step 2 - kick laundry under bed

step 3 - open closet

step 4 - shove crap in closet

kitchen:

step 1 - go to sink

step 2 - stack dirty dishes in sink

step 3 - shove crap in empty cabinet space (is there any??)

bathroom:

step 1 - pull shower curtain across bathtub

step 2 - open linen closet

step 3 - shove crap in linen closet

living room:

step 1 - open hall closet

step 2 - follow step 4 under "bedroom"

step 3 - open coffee table & end tables

step 4 - shove crap in coffee table & end tables (those old wood ones are perfect)

You now have a gloriously spotless house cleaned in 10 minutes flat.

I tried it, and it doesn't work.  What actually happens is:

step 1 - lift dust ruffle on bed

Find something interesting under dust ruffle

Hmmm..that de-rails me too, but ya gotta close your eyes & keep cramming stuff in there til you forget you saw anything shiny under there. 8)What a great thread!! I saw myself in almost every reply. I guess unloading the dishwasher is my worst. Loading it is fun, but putting it all away in the correct place is awful. I just don't like any chores. I only do them if people are coming over. Isn't that awful?? That would be LAUNDRY, GROCERY SHOPPING, and LAUNDRY. [QUOTE=chocoholic] I dont think I can set up one of the little fancy polls for this one bc there are so many types of chores. But, I'm just wondering what drives everyone bonkers to have to do, if its the same type of stuff and what you've done to make it easier.

Cleaning the bathroom. My tub and tile are a yellowish-gray at the moment. I'm debating whether to pay someone to clean it or just move! It's up in the air at the moment.

I would like to get a job traveling ( I would prefere to fly) so I could just stay in motels, eat out, and have clothes sent out to the cleaners. [QUOTE=Mark Goode][QUOTE=Reizende]

I HATE LAUNDRY!  There is always a killer pile somewhere.  And BTW, what is an iron?
i hate to shower!!!!House work in general. RN

Unloading the dishwasher, paying bills (or any type of paperwork), trying to organize things, and folding laundry

Laundry and bills!!!

I finally told all my kids that they had to do their own laundry.  It works really well.  I only have to do my own and my 9 year old's.

I think any chore - cleaning the house chores or outside gardening chores - are all boring.

Here you guys, something fun to try to make folding laundry interesting for a few days!  Originally posted by member Stepmom2maddy.

I fold all my T-shirts this way now and wow does it go fast.  But you have to practice and before you know it you'll be going through all your drawers refolding all your t's.

I agree that house work in general is a real drag but..

Ironing has to be the worst.  I refuse to do it unless it's absolutely necessary.  I use the the dryer, that works well enough.  Of course I have to do that with almost everything because I never seem to get things out of the dryer and put away before they wrinkle.

Putting away the laundry.  If I don't put my clothes in the dresser or hang it up right away, I'll never do it and it will just collect in big piles in my room.

Trying to get the kids to do their chores.  In the end it would have just been easier to do it myself.  I remind them or tell them something they need to get done and walk away and completely forget about it until I come back across it and their undone chore is in the way of me getting something else done.

And finally the paper work I have to agree with (as I sit here at my desk, that's over flowing with it).  It's here on the desk, in baskets on the kitchen counter and dining room table, living room magazine rack, dresser.  There's piles of papers everywhere.  It's just never ending.

Oh how I hate dusting.  I don't know why, because it's so simple.  Maybe because it is so boring.  I read a post about hating to unload the dishwasher.  That is me too.  It's weird.  I don't mind loading it but always put off unloading it.  Ironing is also a real "favorite" of mine.  I only do it if I absolutely have to.  We buy lots of the wrinkle free clothes .   Dee
