I have a 7 yr old son who has been on Concerta for almost 2 years. I know this sounds crazy and my doctor says this is not a side effect of Concerta but.....His toe nails and finger nails has not grown for 2 years (I mean I have not cut them). Before you say this I know the medicine can cause my child to pick at his finger nails but he wears shoes all the time and sleeps in footie PJs in the winter to this does not explain why his toe nails are not needing cut. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem. I am very concern because if his nails are not growning then what else it not growing.
That is really interesting! Is his hair growing? If it is, I wouldn't worry to much about it. Still something to keep your eye on though!Yes his Hair is growing. And I want to say once again. He is NOT picking his toenails. They are just not growing. This is why I was concerened.
I have caught my daughter now 5 biting her fingernails and toenails. My son also bites his fingernails. I don't know how old your son is but mine (9) also cuts his own toenails and fingernails some of the time.
Maybe your son is afraid to tell you he bites or cuts his own nails because he doesn't know how you will react. Have you asked him directly and without emotion.
I know I can't stand long fingernails and toesnails myself. I am also ADHD.
