Caffine | ADHD Information
Caffiene is great so is nicotine and any other stimulant if stimulants
work for you. Obviously nicotine not the way to go for a kid but
a lot of people self medicate with stimulants . I know I add a ton of
caffiene to my diet and I am on meds but it helps with
concentration. My ADHD is too severe for caffiene
alone to help but a lot of folks with mild cases can
get by with little tricks like that. If he is not
responding well to the meds then it might be something you could try
for awhile.
As for side effects it's a stimulant so he could go through caffiene
withdrawal at night which will make him extremely cranky and have
headaches. Plus caffiene is not known for letting you get a good
nights rest so it could disturb his sleep.
Also if you have to use medication don't feel guilty about it. When a
kid has a problem that needs meds and doesn't get them it just makes
them miserable and makes everything in life that much harder. You need
only talk to the Adult sufferers on this forum (myself included) that
were refused meds/help when we were children. We've all gotten help on
our own as adults and all wish we would have gotten help earlier. I
know my life would have been much easier if I had the chance to learn
how to adapt and succeed as a child instead of having to waste time
learning it as an adult.
No decision is right for everyone but don't feel guilty that you are trying to help your son. < ="">
Has anyone else heard of using caffine instead of prescription drugs? Someone told me you can use this without the side effects of the other prescription drugs. I am considering talking my son off medication. He is 7 yrs old and only weighs 40lbs. I cant take the side effects of the medicines and I also feel soo guilty haveing him on mediciation
Caffeine did work for my child if I went away and forgot the meds but not quite as good as the meds. Why don't you try giving your child one of thoes nutritional drinks like boost or ensure? I just bought it for my 9 year old son to see if it will help him gain a few pounds. He has weighed 63 lbs. for about one year now and only grew about 1 1/2 inches in the last 10 months.
