What did your diagnosis consist of? | ADHD Information

Get a list of all the psychiatrists that take your insurance and then call around and see if any of them have experience with ADHD. You'd be surprised how many don't. You don't need to get retested if you can get your records transfered from your old doctor for the new doctor to look over. They need to know what the other doctor did treatment wise such as meds and why they came to the dicision you had ADD.

The best way to get the most out of your visit is to plan ahead. That means writing it down. I know I've known exactly what I wanted to talk, complain, etc about while I was driving to the appointment, sitting in the waiting room I'd still be pretty clear but once I got in and started talking and getting side tracked everything I needed to cover went right out the window and I'd be pissed when i got back out to my car that I forgot to mention whatever. It doesn't have to be a long thing it could be just a simple list of words that will remind you of topic you want to cover. That way a quick glance at your list and you'll see you wrote the word sleep, thats enough to spark your memory to mention all the problems you have with sleeping or the word books if your having trouble concentrating while reading studying whatever works for you.

< =""> I was diagnosed in 11th grade by a doctor my high school recommended. I have not been treated for years. I only took adderall for a couple of days. I want to get treatment now. I don;t have a psychiatrist or know of a psychiatrist. Do I just call a random one that takes my insurance? Do I need to re-test or does having a prior diagnosis mean that I just have to sort of come in and say - I was once prescribed something and I want to try it again? I am scared that in person, he/she will ask me a question, and I'll forget all the stuff that I want to say about what is wrong...
How do I prepare? Who do I call?
