Anyone have not-so-common habits?  Like, my main habit when i am stressed is twirling a curl in my hair....

but there was a time when i guess i irritated my parents by twirling my hair so much, and they constantly barked at me to stop whenever they saw me do it...it was then that i would find myself constantly doing  other not-so-common habits, ...

i would bite the bottom of my lip (until it was soar)...until my parents curtailed that (they said I looked retarded when I bit my lip...literally), then I would play with the skin on my hands, that annoyed them, they stopped that, then i would crack my knuckles, that annoyed the heck out of them, and then i would work my way around to all these other not-so-common habits, and my parents hated all of them...

then i would end up back where I started...twirling my hair....then we would go through this cycle all over again.

I constantly chew my lips!!!! I wish I could stop - I must look so funny to other people. I chew them so much they get sore, and my jaw actually starts to hurt too.

I bought some bitter lime gel to smear on my fake Christmas tree so that my cat wouldn't chew on it - I'm almost tempted to try it on my lips!
My legs continuously bounce up and down when I am at my desk at work, and even at home on the couch, and even sometimes when I am lying in bed trying to sleep. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to crack if I don't get up and do something. But apparently I still have the primarily innatentive ADD. This kind of restlessness is common to ADD, but isin't enough to be considered ADHD.

Reizende,

I have a hard time sitting still too. I can keep quiet in class etc but i am always moving my foot and i also twirl my hair sometimes and bite my nails.

I always sit on my legs... so they can't bounce hehe...I also bit my bottom lip...but at home now, I just take out my upper plate and then I can't do it! But I don't think I should do that while out.    And then there's the thing I do drawing out little hearts with my thumbs on the pads of my index fingers. I go in one direction, then reverse. I'm doing this all the time.

Reizende, it's only the past two weeks you've had this problem? I've NEVER been able to sit in one place for very long. It really drives my friends crazy. It makes them nervous. How do they think it makes ME feel? GypsyWomyn38455.7142013889I chew my lips and lick below my gumline constantly, plus I scratch my other fingers with my thumb when I'm really nervous. The scars it leaves are not fun. I meditate and take kava when it gets to be too much. Has anyone run into medication that stopped this stuff flat?

I am also doing this. All my life I have chewed my lip, chewed my fingernails (til sore & bloody often times cuz loose skin is a distracting annoyance) played with some annoying flaw on my skin, played with my hair, you name it. They used to say back in the late 80's we don't bite nails as adults..and I am like..riiiiiight...uh huh. 8)

Do you actually need to sit still? Is there any reason you can't get up and move around for a couple of minutes and then site back down?

What about using a stress ball?

I pull on my ears when I'm stressed usually don't even realise I'm doing it till I notice how hot and red they get lol.

I don't sit still much so know the frustration of being forced to sit for awhile. Hell even on the computer I don't really sit. I'm standing, dancing, hopping, bopping playing tug of war with the dogs and cleaning my room most night while checking email, chatting online or in forums. One of the dog's is actually sleeping curled up on my puter chair right now. LOL wish I had a camera she's soo cute < =""> [QUOTE=livingwithadd]

OMG!!  the stress ball!  i have loved several of these to death!....how many of those little baloon thingys with the flour or sand in there and I have kneaded it and manipulated the thing so much and so hard that a hole developed in the thing and the sand/flour started leaking out.

or either, all of a sudden, the whole thing just splits in two, leaving me sitting at work, at my computer, with a hand full of flour, and flour all over my desk.

If I get one, I would need a really tough one that can stand up to me and my stresses....

i almost always have at least one rubber band on my wrist so i pull that off and play with it when i'm not doing something else with my hands.  i go nuts if i don't have one, because they're handy for holding my hair back too because i can't stand to have it in my face.  i also have a necklace that i wear most of the time because it was my great grandma's and my mom gave it to me, so it has sentimental value and it's also handy to play with.  i twirl my pen in my hands when i'm reading a lot, too, so i have pen marks on all of my jeans because i drop pens on them all the time.

my roomate gets annoyed with me because i'm always playing with something, but she picks at her feet- like pulls skin off of them, which i think is GROSS, so it's not only people with add who do things like that.

I put old Michael Jackson albums on really loud, so I can tap my feet in time to some funky music. doesn't make me any more productive, but at least I am having fun dancing in my chair.

This last 2 weeks have been a chore to sit still. Just can't do it. Whether I am rocking in my chair, tapping my foot, swiveling my chair at work...ARGHHH

Sometimes I think the nail-biting and hair twirling is also just the hyperactivity.
