Well, first off, methylphenidate doses are not based on a person's size. Instead, it's based on the individual's brain's metabolism of the drug. So, size is not the problem; however, it is possible that you have not found your ideal dose.
As for the "timing" to see effects...One should notice the difference "immediately" (for lack of a better word). Methylphenidate is unlike some other meds, Strattera for example, which take weeks or months to get into a person's system.
One should note that meds are not a cure-all, but rather, they are a helping hand.
Although I'm not your dr., I would suggest trying the methylphenidate for a few more days and if you still are finding that it isn't right for you, then I would start to think about your alternative options.
Best of luck!
Hey guys/gals, I was just put on Methyphenidate (Generic Ritalin) 10mg twice daily. I just filled the prescription last night and took my first pill this morning. I felt a bit of a rush and then I felt relaxed afterwards. I didn't noticed a thing in my focus or concentration. I'm concerned that it could be my size that's not allowing the drug to take effect (6'7" 230lbs).
What exactly is it supposed to do? Isn't it supposed to stop the 'channel changing' thought process? Honestly, all I feel it did was kind of zonk me out a bit (slow me down) and that's it! My thoughts are still as random and I can't keep the focus like I was hoping.
Maybe it's because it's my first pill and I was excpecting my life to change and the focus just roll in, or maybe I'm expecing too much.
Can anyone relate? What should I do?
Thanks :)
give the med's sometime.... your life isn't going to change with the 1st pill. it may take a couple of weeks or months. good luck...
give the med's sometime.... your life isn't going to change with the 1st pill. it may take a couple of weeks or months. good luck...
I figured as much, haha. I just wanted to see if it should be working differently. Thanks for the response! :)
What should one expect when taking meds like ritalin?
I too am being newly diagnosed w/ Add, and think I am expecting one pill to change my world. I know that there will be some new behavior changes I will need to make, and medication can/could help me in the changes/follow through/and thought process.
how does one know how sever or how minor their defficit is?
Do you go through cycles depending on the stressors in life and other stuff? I know there are times (not currently on meds) when my mind is just racing and wondering, and going from one thought to the other...and other times it is not that bad. Right now I am on a good cycle, but they don't last long.
I read medical charts all day long at work, and my productivity is so low because I find my self day dreaming, and thoughts going else were....any way...i am drifiting off topic...guess you all can understand
Hi,
I started out taking methylphenidate and it worked REALLY well for me. I hardly experienced any side effects, and my focus seemed crystal clear. I am now taking adderall xr and don't feel as focused as I did with the ritalin. ALthough it has only been two weeks so I'll give it more time. However, I DO think I'm switching back.
