Does ADD give you odd interests? | ADHD Information
I am not one to care for brand names, so I go with the generic legos 8)
The problem with the generic ones is that they tend to come and go. That presents a problem for those of us who are considering rebuilding Mt. Rushmore completely out of legos. Standardization over time is very important for such things, so sticking to the name brand carries less risk on your investment.

Many, many welcomes to Ronin... big salute!

Lego Is also very expensive in Denmark... all danish produced things are expensive... but there is allot of thought in them also... and high quality also, i think...

I havent tried any of the new stuff... I have sort of grown out of it... I am from the time were ordinary lego, and technics ruled... I have even made a 4 sted gearbox in lego once

Taag Man38456.3190856481Hey Reizende! If you can take a trip to Vancouver check out the Lego Odyssey at Science World:

LOL. I only know about this because my best friend's husband is a Lego FREAK. He loves the stuff. Oddly enough, I strongly believe he has ADD.

He once built a 3D Yoda head, at least a foot high, entirely out of Lego, without any pattern to follow. It actually looked pretty good.
I've gotten my kids pounds of Legos at either resale kids shops or garage sales. We have a dinosaur/cave man castle going right now.

I have always been deemed as "strange" since kindergarten. I have always done things a bit differently & taken on different interests than the general concensus. For example, I have always wanted to dye my hair aquamarine because it's my favorite color. I did have a slight punk phase in high school, but nowadays I wish I could just have blue hair because its unique and pretty. I have an office job so that will never happen. Out of boredom I have changed hair colors from brown, blonde, & red about 5-6 times in the past 10 years. It's red now but I miss being a bold platinum blonde. It won't look good until I lose all the weight.

Another interest..I love legos! Also love putting puzzles together & painting non-objective and abstract paintings. Most people just look at me and go uhhhh..thats nice.

Like, what do normal people do all day if my interests are wacked out? Where I grew up, drinking beer on the back end of a pickup & spinning your tires in the mud was considered normal entertainment. LOL

I'm from the land of Lego... I can fill my floor with lego... grown out of it though

Strange, indeed... I've always been the "strange" guy, but i do think that AD(H)D causes us to have different kind of interests than people without it, but i do believe it is caused by our Attention problems, which makes it hard for us to have same interests as people without AD(H)D.

Can you get legos cheap in Denmark? That would be great as here in the US it's too expensive to go totally crazy.

Personally, my idea of fun is to learn something about everything I can. So I dabble in every hobby imaginable for at least a few months before moving on to the next.

I wouldn't say its cheap here, but now i don't know the price over in the u.s ;)

Well, I just bought a set for a friends birthday. It was the Millenium Falcon from Star Wars and it was 0 US.

I guess I have a few odd interests (if you ask Jill they're all odd) When ever I go to the bone yard (auto wrecking/salvage yard) I need to pack a lunch, as I'll be gone all day. Too many things to see and find. Since I'm a pack rat I usually bring home more than what I had origonally set out for, and sometimes forget about it altogether.

I also enjoy word games and puzzles, crosswords are good as long as  they're not too large or I'll lose interest. (imagine that)

I've also found that for auto racing fans, drag racing must have been invented by an ADD'er! in less than 5 seconds it's over and you know who won

I wish I were interested in more things. I think so many things are boring. I want to enjoy hikes I really do but they are so boring to me. I love beautiful days outside and want to find something stimulating. I would love to go ride a jet ski for hours on end, I can focus on things I enjoy that are stimulating for a long time, but i find it hard to go take a walk with my fiance. I feel so bad. I wish I enjoyed cooking too but it is boring. With the computer around, I find it hard to ever get anything like that done lol. I Should limit my computer time I guess. I somehow manage to make myself do my homework in statistics etc though. Very challenging. Thank heavens I'm taking meds now. Helps me stay focused enough to get it done!! Anyway, I love tv,movies, computer, games and other stimulating things. I just struggle with some of the activities that others without ADHD enjoy. My brother is really into cathedrals. When my family and I were in Europe he wanted to go tour them. I was soo bored. Cathedrals bore me. I've seen enough pictures of them. I also used to play with legos when i was little and my brother and I would make up stories about them and have a blast lol. I think he was always hyperactive. I was always "inattentive." Anyway, my older brother when he got bored used to always demand attention from my parents and in order to do that would pester the daylights out of me.  We both got bored easily though. And we still do things like watch movies to keep us interested. I used to get soo bored with some tv shows. Since I've been taking meds, I can watch soo much more and be interested. it's great! Anyway, I want to be able to read etc like other people. I read romance books. But I have to skip through a lot of parts due to boring description parts lol. I'm getting better with focusing since starting concerta but still struggle at times. Some books can hold my attention for a long time but a lot of them dont. The only interesting books to me are like Harlequin romance, silhouette romance books. I wish i could read biographies etc! Any advice? do any of you have the same problem with stuff? like you want to be interested in something but it totally bores you and you need something more stimulating??

I don't know if ADHD gives a person odd interests as much as it is likely to give you more than one interest.  We start one hobby, get bored with it, move on to another.   Always in search of something to keep us stimulated.

I have found that now that I am diagnosed I can catch myself now and then in ADHD behaviors.  It helps a little bit in focusing me on finishing projects instead of abandoning them because they no longer excite me.  I try to find what it was that drove me in the first place.

i dont think its all that odd of an interest, but studying the stock market sort of appeases my mind, especially currency markets because they trade 24 hours a day.  if you have a bit of an analytical mind and enjoy "beating the system", look into learning a little about the stock market and currency markets.  and who knows, it may just make you a little money too!  pm me if this sounds interesting to you and id be glad to send a little info your way about good books to read.

also, i do get some really weird ideas about stuff id like to do (kind of crafty i think).  here recently, ive been wanting to learn how to make paper.  i dont know why, paper is just something that interests me, in that weird kind of way.

I like doing nearly anything, for short amounts of time. LOL. Except talking. I can talk for hours....Legos... You guys should visit Southern CA.... and go to Legoland ... it's an amusement parkLOL
My son is into legos and he gets them for birthdays christmas and we get them at gargage sales and resale shops as well.I just bought him a big rubbermade tote FULL of legos for .00 he is in his glory.

i want to save the world from homoginization in the media, food and retail marketplace.

better said, I'd like more than a few mega-corporations to own media outlets like radio, TV, newspapers, movie production studios.
i don't want all stores to be WalMart.
or all retaurants to be a McKFC Hut Bell.
all bars to be Hooters.

when this happens, then the "normal" people have won.
cash has won.

"I wish I were interested in more things. I think so many things are boring. With the computer around, I find it hard to ever get anything like that done lol."

I agree, princessbride22.  Though difficult, I *know* that if I don't accomplish a certain number of tasks before turning on the 'puter, then I've wasted lots of time.  And I don't like to waste time.  I'd be lost without a computer.  I am curious about an astronomical number of subjects, and the Internet provides me with info. and answers quickly.  Prior to having access to the Internet , my arms would get sore from retrieving books from my encyclopedia set.

"Anyway, I want to be able to read etc like other people. I read romance books. But I have to skip through a lot of parts due to boring description parts lol."

I don't read romance novels, but I, too, find I skip over most of the descriptions in other type novels.  I've asked myself, being a highly detailed person in many aspects of life, tasks, etc., why I find the drawn-out descriptions distastefully boring.  I found that they aren't boring at all.  That due to my being a strong visual learner, I form a scene loaded with graphic details in my mind's eye even before getting to the descriptive part of a novel, and reading it causes me to feel mentally overloaded.  Or, I prefer the scene I created...find it more interesting than the author's!  LOL!

"I wish i could read biographies etc! Any advice? do any of you have the same problem with stuff? like you want to be interested in something but it totally bores you and you need something more stimulating??"

The best advice is to not use your energies going against your grain, so to speak, trying to become interested in what others are interested in.  (Why would you want to, anyway?)  Continue searching until you find what interest you.  By the way, I've never heard a non-Adder say they want to find interest in what others find interesting.  Have you?

Happy Hunting!

"I have always been deemed as "strange" since kindergarten. I have always done things a bit differently & taken on different interests than the general concensus."

"Also love putting puzzles together..."  Puzzles and word games are two of my favorite mental activities. To many others who are non-ADD, too...nothing strange about these.  Wonderful mental stimulation!  In fact, a puzzle is sent to me every day...don't have time to do it every day, but make up for it by doing 3-4 at one time.

"...& painting non-objective and abstract paintings. Most people just look at me and go uhhhh..thats nice."  A long ago discovery via observation re: people is that most aren't inquisitive about others' profound feelings and the manner by which they express them.  Too bad, too, because much of what can be learned is lost to those who have no interest in others.

I meant puzzles as in the kind in the box you sort out and stick together. 8) I wanna make a puzzles painting and kinda fit bits of puzzles in the scheme in some kinda blow-out looking design like it all exploded into artwork.

That must be an enjoyable, satisfying hobby...waiting for the results of the "explosion."  I wouldn't be surprised if this was a means for creating the many special effects that are used for decorating a house..furniture, etc.

My 5 yr old Grandson creates this type of artwork.  His creativity blew my mind when he showed me his creations last week...the difference is that he used crayons, not paint.
