Risperdal | ADHD Information

my son is on risperdal and i haven't had any real problems with the drug.the only problem is he gained 10 pounds. i think all kids go thru the cockyness thing..as for the possible liver damage all meds can cause liver damage ...i'm not sure but if you read long enough  about ritaln and prozac they probably cause liver damage.... have a great day We have a 12 yr old, ADHD who is taking 40 mg of Ritaln LA & was Taking 10mg of Prozac.  The Prozac was discontinued because of his bold & cocky attitude.  The Dr stated he might need to be put on Risperdal instead.  Has anyone had any experience with this med?  I'm reading all the postings about possible liver damage...  Anyone also have anysuggestions on the issues on the sudden "cockyness"?  He's starting fights in school, and it's never been a problem before.  He was diagnosed with depression 1 1/2 yrs ago, but this has seem to fade now with his "new-found" courage. My daughter was on Risperdal for a short time (about 3 months).  We had great results but she gained 10 lbs in that 3 month period.  This medication is an Antipsychotic not an Anitdepressant.  My daughter has been diagnosed as Bipolar.  This medication is however used off label for other diagnoses.

Hello, My Doctor kept telling me that this medicine was the best for children so we tried it about a year ago and it turned out to make him very irritable and angry so we took him off it and we tried it again last month and again it was making him angry. So he is not on it now. He is on Concerta and Clonidine now.

Well unfortunatly I cant say first had anything about this medicine however a good friend of mines son is on that he she swears by it. She has stated that she has a new child now. She told me that I needed to look into gettin that for my son, however my son has ADHD with ODD and has not been diagnosed with depression.

My son (turned 5 in April) was diagnosed with ADHD towards the end of last year and a specialist Paediatrician prescribed Risperdal for him.

It is the best thing ever and my son is a complete different person. He is a much happier child, more focused and not at all aggressive anymore.

He has been through two schools already and the teacher from his third school, a Montessori School, asked me to have him evaluated. I'd always acknowledged there was a problem but thought he was too young to medicate but I was wrong.

His appetite has increased tenfold but he has not picked any weight at all, most probably has a fast metabolism. My 18 year old brother who is on Ritalin had the adverse effect and he hardly ever eats and has lost weight but is also a much happier teenager
