Hello Everyone I Need Help! | ADHD Information

Share
I am 39 and recently diagnosed so no, it is not too late.  You wil always wonder if you do not have her tested.  wish I had been

I have spoken with a teacher who was diagnosed as an adult with ADHD.  My cousin was diagnosed when he was in grade 11.  I know you probably have, but I have to ask!  Have you talked with her teachers and asked what their thoughts are on her being ADHD? They are the only other people besides you that spend as much time with her if not more! So their opinions are extremely important!

If your daughters teachers feel the same way you do, I would go for the testing asap!

Hollie,

There is an overwhelming amount of information on ADHD and even more advice from those of us that are dealing with it   Each individual is different as are the degrees and variations.  The one thing I highly recommend is to visit this web site below and read it fully twice!!!!  I guarantee that you will have a better understanding of what you are dealing with and how to proceed in the future.  The content is 'right on' and will help you decide on the right combination of meds and behavior modifications necessary to help your child mature to their fullest potential.

hey Paul

Thanks for the website!! It's wonderful!!

Well being ADD and my son now diagnosed (excuse the spelling) with ADD it is normal for girls to be diagnosed later rather than early not always the case but is very common. talk to your doctor and your daughter let her decied that ADD fits her feelings and emotions makes it easier to get her to take meds or to look at alternatives to help her cope with day to day living. gives her control and that is half our battle is trying to control our feels, emotions and our impulses. not to mention figuring ways around things like math reading and major reports in school that take lots of concentration

Hi i am 22/m and i was diagnosed only 2 months ago.  I have always known my whole life, and i have told my family and friends that i have always known something was not right about me.  I am telling you now if she does have it you need to know because i went through a long early life having to struggle to get through everything always feeling like i was different and hyperactive.  For example, the time i was the sickest in my life i had a temperature of 104.3 and was running around the E.R. because i was so hyperactive.  If you are low on money you will save money i think by finding out now and dealing with it now. don't ignore it, that is what me and my family did and now my life is starting to make sense why i felt so different and shy my entire life

i'm 21 and was just recently diagnosed.  like most people that were diagnosed later on in life, i'm not someone who acts on impulse all the time and is not very loud.  However I do have a bad case of ADHD and went undiagnosed for so long that some of the secondary effects of depression and anxiety came about before a proper diagnosis for ADHD was made.  my advice to get as much information on ADHD as you can and have your daughter see a doctor who is very experienced in dealing with ADHD because a doctor who isn't can do a lot of harm.  I was placed on several medications that I didn't need to be on in the past because of a bad doctor.  I doubt if all that chemical exposure didn't do anything negative to my body and mind.

Hi Hollie,

Its never too late to be diagnosed with any disorder and what sometimes looks like adhd may be entirely something different. If your gut feeling tells you that your child is exhibiting behaviors out of the norm, its never a waste of money to get it checked. Good luck.Smile

Hello everyone. My daughter, Kimberly, is 13 yo and acts like she has ADHD. All of the symtoms seem to apply, but is she too old to be dignosed? We're in a financial fix and don't want to waste money if she can't have ADHD. Please respond, thanks. -Hollie

I would just to add, some public schools will do a test to see if your child needs to go to the doctors to be tested.  Just talk to the school nurse or guidance counselors, they should be able to lead  you to the right place if her school has any.
