talking to yourself | ADHD Information

When you stop thinking, when do you start again? Your bound to get vocal in thought, especially if you have any depth. [QUOTE=sonya_h]

do you ever find yourself talking to yourself out loud?  then you realize you were talking to yourself AFTER the fact.....and then get extremely embarrassed and look around wondering if any one else noticed that you were talking to yourself...

once or twice people have looked at me like I was totally crazy..

others are like,....um, were you talking to me?..and i give a sheepish "no"...

it's just that my thoughts race so fast and intense that sometimes they just come out out loud....

don't leave me in the cold, please don't tell me i'm the only one who does t his...

Yes, I do that ALL the time. Sometimes people give me funny looks or they'll ask, "Are you okay?" Sometimes I laugh out loud at something funny that I said. Usually I sheepishly say, "Sorry, I was just remembering a funny joke someone told me yesterday." Other times I'm just honest and say, "Oops, I was talking to myself."  Don't worry. You're not the only one.
scarygreengiant38458.8890625Yes, I even talk out loud reading what I am typing in the forums. Just to make sure I am not making typos. Even if I am not reading it out loud, I hear the words in my head that I am typing on my screen. lol I talk out loud asking myself where I put something or making silly comments about things I saw or read.

"My thoughts can race fast too, in fact, we can carry on three different subjects in one small conversation going back and forth so easily and the other person is playing catch-up"

I find myself filling in the words for the other person out loud when I am attempting to listen to a "normal person" in a conversation. sometimes completing sentences for them before they start them.

Before I was aware of my ADHD if I had an important meeting I would get liquored up the night before just to slow me down for the next day so I wouldn't talk to much and blow the deal

I talk to myself all the time!  I actually think it makes more sense to talk out loud because I'm talking to myself in my head all the time.

Yes Sandra, but don't worry about it. Usually with me it's from me daydreaming about something or going over a situation in my head. It's not like we "hear voices".

Look at it this way, at least we're not a boring drag. We're interesting people. Never a dull moment with our kind.

Surely by this time in our lives you've figured out how to down play it when caught. After all, we are a creative lot.

My thoughts can race fast too, in fact, we can carry on three different subjects in one small conversation going back and forth so easily and the other person is playing catch-up...and we've figured that out too and end up finally finishing our thoughts on that original part of the conversation we were having with another. They got their answer to the question or the right reply but they also got more then they bargained for and sort of look like they are a bit confused about a little conversation but not sure what just happened and well, you know what I mean. goldenmoment38458.6713310185I understand a bit - I have a hard time with formal writing because I go too fast and write like I talk. But . . . wow . . . I don't think that fast.

I know it sounds really weird but it's like I  think faster than I can process what I need to work something out in my mind and my learning style is kinesthetic(sp) so it helps me to sort of "talk" it though. I have problems expressing myself and remembering the right word to use when I'm speaking so I can "talk" as fast as I think. I have to talk things out sometimes with my friends to decide about something. Also it's kind of like I have to take notes in a lecture because it helps me to process and remember. Does this seem to make more sense?

I'm new here and my thoughts race through my head so fast that talking to myself is trying because English is too slow. I've sort of created my on "language." It really doesn't make sense( the words I use in a whisper to myself)  and I don't even understand it myself but it's like I can express and understand my racing thoughts and don't have to try to think of the right words, I just start "jabbering"sort of. I think it might be sort of like teaching a baby to use sign language or something. I don't know and I know it sounds crazy but it works for me!

I think we got an ADHD'r here with a *capital H*. Welcome to the forums!

Nabbersnap,

(No disrespect intended)   ...........What?

Been talking to myself and my stuffed animals as long as I can remember. I try not to talk to myself outside of the houe but occasionaly it happens, usually when I am trying to remind myself of what I need to do but occasionaly my mind does just wander and I will say something aloud talking to myself.I talk aloud to myself a lot.

LOL!  I do that all the time!  My animals even look at me like I am crazy sometimes!

I talk to myself all the time. Sometimes I'll even rehash previous conversation that I had with someone else thinking that I should have handled it differently. Then I hear myself saying this out loud and start thinking I'm nuts. Well maybe I am a little

I think we all talk to ourselves..... sometimes you're the only one who understands what you're trying to say
