Adult ADD and work... | ADHD Information

My family doctor said she could prescribe meds, HOWEVER, she didn't feel comfortable doing that because if it was something more then Adult ADD then the meds could have a bad effect on me. She also said that a lot of doctors will just diagnose and prescribe medicine and she has heard too many horror stories about people freaking out on meds because they ended up having something more then just ADD.
I know what you mean I am 22. I just started at a major company as an account excutive. I am out of control. I can not do my job. I was promted with in. I can not live up to my potential. I start 20 things never finish things. Meetings are just even worse. I have a notebook that I bring to meetings. It is filled with random pictures and random words. I have appointment to go see my family doctor today. I hope he will give me something. I feel like I am falling apart. I can not do anything! Everyone at work thinks I am a joke. I do finish my work eventully. I get the job done but not on time. Hopefully med's will help I smart enough to do this I just can not concetrate. My mind run's at 120 a hr.
The hardest part is that once you are diagnosed that people still might not get it. I am trying so hard to overcome something that has wreaked havoc on my life for 32 years and it is difficult, people just don't get it sometimes. Then again, there are others who are super supportive and completely understand.
So I went to my family doc and he gave me 40mg of strattera. I took it at 3:30 yesterday. I felt like I was i was 18 on mushrooms and weed at the same time I could not open my eyes or move my body until 9:00. It was to calm me down not put me down.  My sister takes adderall and I have taken it before and it worked great I was able to do every thing. The doctor said that I need a add test. He reffered my to a psch. Hopefully he will give me adderall. Does strattera do this to everyone? I cant take that medicine. I am glad I took it after work yesterday instead of this moring I would be dead on my desk.Has anyone taken the test? There are a bunch of different tests for ADD. This is the one that I was given from my first Psychologist, she read it word for word basically:

My mind run's at 120 a hr.I got promoted too, but it's been 1 year since promotion and I still can't get work done on deadlines. Everything falls under certain dates. When it is not those dates, I have to fill in my day somehow. The bad part is, I can't do anything in advance to prepare for those dates as it all involves putting dates on the work lol. Go to your doctor and then a Psychiatrist. A Psychiatrist is the only person who should be diagnosing and prescribing medications.
Also, go out to the library and read all you can on Adult ADD. It will help out more then you will know!

my doc prescribed meds for me....then he referred me to the psychiatrists....

doctors are eligible to prescribe meds for ad/hd...but i think that the psychiatrists are sometimes more eligible to figure out exactly whats wrong, and exatly which meds you need, but a good humble family doc will already be aware of that and will send you to one anyway.

I took an ADHD test and I aced it!

Oh wait, where were we?  Shanna, good luck on getting the right meds but there is more you can do.  Contact someone in your company, like the HR department and let them know you were just diagnosed with this.  It might prevent you from getting in hot water for job performance until the meds can help you get under control.  Remember too that there are other tools to use as well: planners to keep track of things, proper exercise and diet, proteins and amino acids, etc.  This board is loaded with lots of helpful hints, so put them to use.

My doctor prescribed the meds for me, but checked each time for dosages and confirmation with the Mental Health psychiatric nurse. Which I think is good. However, they do both listen to me and what I have to tell them on how I feel about the meds. LSD4165 is my husband and recently he got screwed over at work he cleans school buildings at night and no one ever complained to him at all then all of the sudden they move him to 3 rd shift from 2 nd shift.  When they are short staffed he is there killing himself to please those bastards now he told me they posted the 2 nd shift position his spot and gave him a bad evaluation "poor use of time".  Now his hours are mixed up and we never see one another and he feels he is being punished.  I feel bad for him and told him to tell them to shove it and find another job, but he does not want to give them the satisfaction.  He is actually thinking about seeing our doctor soon.  Family will not understand they see him as an underachiever and do not know.  I hate family at times.  I had to vent for him.Anyone else get the same feeling that no one really understands about what we are all going through, especially at work? Sometimes I feel that they just don't understand that the reason I had issues is because of my Adult ADD (which I was diagnosed with after 5 years at this company). It's hard to forget the past and work on the future when you are constantly reminded of your work past. Damn.
