metatdate | ADHD Information

I have a dughter who is  ADD, she takes strattera at night and in the am, she also is on zoloft. We have tried every stimulant med out there and she either has eye blinking, moodiness, sadness, etc.. Her doctor wants her to try Metadate, but I am concerned that she will be so moody and mad like the other meds made her.  With just the strattera she can hardly focus at school, her grades are really slipping because she can't pay attention.  Does anyone have any ideas helping a 6 year old  get focused?  What about metadate?  Thanks

Hi Mom of three

My son is 7 1/2 and has ADHD and has been taking Metadate since November of last year.  We have been very happy with the results and the minimal side effects he has had.  Prior to Metadate, he was taking Adderall XR for almost a year, which worked okay except that he grew tolerant of it and even with increasing the dosage, it began to lose its effectiveness.

One of the reasons his dr. chose Metadate is because he can't swallow a pill and with the Adderall we were able to open up the capsule and put it in something (like pudding, ice cream, etc)  We are very limited of the selection of meds because of the reason that he can't swallow a pill and so that is why he is taking the Metadate.

I have been very happy with the Metadate.  Let me know if it works for your daughter.

Metadate is an established extended length methylphenidate (ritalin) drug
that lasts bout six hours for me and is smoother than Ritalin. I fond
Concerta to be smoother again. Six is young for this medicine. One
good thing about teh stimulants is that you can stop and start without
having to worry about dependence or existing blood levels.

Try it and see.
