FDA Warning Neurontin/Gabapentin | ADHD Information

Jillette, I also was prescribed neurontin for anger, but didn't like it. Neuontin is also prescribed for mood disorders and even bi-polar.
However, I have now taken Carbatrol for three years, a longer acting release form of Tegratol, which also is prescribed for seizures. It has been very successful for helping me control my anger control and mood disorder.
This information is what my pharamacist has included with my Rx:
Brand name: Tegretol
Generic name: Carbamazepine
Other brand names: Carbatrol, Epitol, Tegretol-XR
Tegretol is used in the treatment of seizure disorders, including certain types of epilepsy. It is also prescribed for trigeminal neuralgia (severe pain in the jaws) and pain in the tongue and throat.
In addition, some doctors use Tegretol to treat alcohol withdrawal, cocaine addiction, and emotional disorders such as depression and abnormally aggressive behavior. The drug is also used to treat migraine headache and "restless legs."
Like you said, Jillette, neurontin is usually used for seizures. However, you say you used to work in mental health, so you, better than most, should know how things are always changing in that field, especially when it comes to med.
The FDA just announced another investigation into this medication drug
causing suicidal thoughts and possibly increasing suicide risk. I have
recommended it in the past in another forum for an "off-label"
use--controlling rage, as follows:
A Medication related note: if you
are at a point were your temper too far out of control.... as in being enraged
or completely unable to predict or control your anger I would recommend looking
into getting a prescription for Neurontin/Gabapentin. It is an anti-seizure medication that is also acts as a mood
stabilizer. A number of years ago I had a period where I had bouts of rage that
were quite frightening and would have ended my marriage except for my wifes
strong commitment to me and my willingness and profound desire to 'find a cure'
for my emotional explosiveness. I still
take the medication at a much lower dose and I find that it makes my life a bit
smoother than otherwise.
My recommendation still stands but I feel one should read more if
interested. Here is one link to a recent article on the subject.
