flipping radio stations | ADHD Information
I have to drive with music or I get so bored!! Now that I have my mp3 player, I use that all the time. The radio annoys me. Too many different stations and sometimes nothing is good on whatsoever! So, I bring music that I love and will not get tired of and listen to that when driving to work or wherever. it's wonderful!!! I love to sing to the music too lol(only when I'm alone though. Would be much too embarrassed to sing in front of anybody else). :)I rarely listen to music because most sound bugs me in the car, but when I do, I channel surf constantly. Same with the TV unless it's a show I really want to watch. I can't drive with the music on. I start getting into the music and stop driving and things get a little scary. Being a space case, I have to take extra care when driving. I always give about 3 times the recommended following distance, and even then I can barely stop in time. When I drive I'm constantly flipping the radio stations to hear that next great song. Or, when I'm listening to one I like, that I've heard often even if I like it I start flipping around to see if there's one I might like even better. If there's nothing but talking mumbo jumbo I just keep flipping until I hear some more tunes unless I hear an interesting topic discussed or some kind of silly DJ stuff but not often.
I flip them often when alone and try to show mercy if other's are with me.
Anyone else seem to find themselves often changing radio stations over and over and over and over?
I love my music.
Maybe everyone does it and I just noticed it more with myself. Who knows?Radio bores the heck out of me. The playlists have gotten so narrow and predictable that I just get bored. And bored is no good for ADHD. So I always have CDs playing. It wakes me up on the way in to work and takes away the stress when I am driving home. Ok-Does anyone ever fall in love with a song-buy the cd-listen to it over and over again and then not be able to stand to hear it ever again? Should I be on the OCD site as well? I am also a constant channel surfer-tv and radio. I can't watch Tv with anyone else as I drive them crazy-my brother does this too! In the car I'm real bad about it. I get tired of hearing just commercials or the same 10 songs over and over, so I flip. On my radio, it has a 'seek' feature that will go from station to staion until you stop it. I've been known to drive as far as 30 miles with the seek button activated.
I'm a channel flipper, radio and tv. Even if I find something I like, I have to keep looking in case something 'better' is on...if not, I'll go back to it. I drive people insane. I don't even know I do it anymore. Luckily w/ the satellite, I can watch tv and look at the guide at the same time.
I drove a rental car that had radio buttons on the steering wheel...I was in heaven. I'm usually driving w/ 1 hand on the radio at all times, it was great! No leaning! I miss that car, LoL.
I love changing the radio station. As soon as my daughter is out of my van, I usually find a station and if they aren't playing something I like, I hit the seek button. I like playing name that tune.I flip channels, change radio, pick up new books in between chapters...
I used to make my parents absolutely crazy from the back seat with my station changing requests. I also change songs half way through to see if there is something I like better. I like to think I'm just optimistic!
Oh, and boooks...how many of you skip or skim a ton of stuff you deem unimportant just to reach the point of the thing...gosh...NO patience...I'm better now about it though, because I know I'm prolly missing great stuff.
Holy Poop! You know what my roommate (perfectly normal attention span) said last night that floored me? "Oh, I have to finish this DVD set before I can watch the new one I got in the mail" She had a method to her entertainment even and it wasnt even a continuing series! I could never structure like that....not on all the adderall, counseling, head beatings (LOL) anyone could ever give me!!! "Normal" people are so weird, right?
Driving with Music relaxes me. I must have music to drive, especially when alone. I do wish the Buffalo area had better choices for stations though. Most of my presets are stations fron Canada. It seems most of their stations have ours beat hands down, besides I enjoy listening to a number of Canadian artists, so it works out well. And if all else fails I stuff in a CD and CRANK IT UP
