Medications and sex drive | ADHD Information

I have been taking zoloft for a long time now......and have had absolutly no sex drive. and of course I have been single all this time because sex is a very important part of a good, loving relationship. I miss it alot. Its been so long that I can call myself a virgin. I noticed that some men on here mentioned that Strattera had these same sort of effects on them as well. And there hasn't been any women who have mentioned it. And so I am wondering if Strattera has any sexual side effects on women. I have a feeling that I am destined to a life with no sex. The zoloft works so well for me and that is the only reason I have put up with this.

My MD says that Welbutrin is a great drug for ADD and that many have reported increased libido while on it.  I noticed a drop in libido around 7 years ago and only recently discovered that the drop may have been a function of the negative effects of ADD on relationships.  I started on Wellbutrin 7 days ago.  I won't be on full doses until 3 weeks from now.  By then, my wife will be back in town.  I'll let you know how things work out.

I'm interested to hear how the wellburtin works out, especially as it relates to relationships.  That seems to be the one hurdle I can't overcome when it comes to ADD and treatment with meds.  It seems, with each new med I try, I can tackle the focus/racing mind/memory problems, but when it comes to my relationships, I still have the same issues.  Basically, the longer I'm with someone, the more easily I get irritated, just by their presence.  I mean, that constant, never changing stimulus, that just makes the whole thing, irritating or something.

I used to think it had to do with the relationship in general, you know, that it wasn't working out or something, but then I couldn't figure out why my feelings were so clear when my boyfriend wasn't around.  And why I was irritiated by the silliest things like making noises in the car or singing along with the radio.

Anyway, I had heard that Wellburtin was used to treat add in some instances and actually started another forum asking if it had worked for anyone.  I started taking Strattera which didn't help much and am now on 36mg concerta.  With the strattera, my relationship with my boyfriend improved, but not help in the focus department.  With the concerta, work improved, but the relationsihp is failing again.  Anyway, I thought I'd try asking my doctor to add wellburtin, and would appreciate any feedback.

I must recommend the "Scattered" book to help explain what is going on in your relationship.  Dr. Mate says that the ADDer is emotionally immature and that meds have a limited ability to correct this.  What meds can do is help you focus on the here and now so that you tend not to interupt when someoneis talking and can be more patient in your dealings with loved ones.  Emotional immaturity stems from a learned and practiced protection system that started during infancy.  Only therapy can help you work through that.  Meds only tend to mask it so that one can function in society.
