Straterra? | ADHD Information

For me Strattera did nothing.  I was on it for 2 or 3 months.

Ritalin made me way over focused.  I was on it for about 1 month.

Adderall XR (40 mg) has helped me the most (with energy and the want/need to do anything).  I've been taking Adderall XR for about 6 months now.  And just went from 30 mg to 40 mg daily.  I also take 40 mg of Prozac daily.

So far none of these has helped me with my focusing/memory problems.  So I do projects for about 15 minutes at a time (until my mind starts getting confused) and need then to either do something different or rest.

Since I'm 50 years old, my age might have something to do with how I react to meds as compared to someone younger............

bcgirl, i think we are on a similiar path.  i started wellbutrin xl about three months ago.  i have gradually gone up to 450mg/day, with no real improvement.  i see my doc in a couple of weeks and will look for a different path as well.  if you could keep me posted on your findings....... unbreakable38469.6385763889

I've been on about a month and the first couple days I was dragging with no energy and thought "I can do this without taking a pill!!!"

Now I'm more focused finish "most" things I start and have more energy.

I had the nausea too and that about drove me crazy till I tried something. I was eating dairy for breakfast and I switched to other things with no dairy and the nausea is very tolerable now and I hardly have it happen.

I'd recommend giving it a try remembering everyone reacts differently to meds and that one must stay with it for a while to get your body use to it.

I'm going back to the doctor again tomorrow, and will be telling her that Wellbutrin was a spectacular failure.

I recently learned that Straterra is now available in Canada. Since I can't go on stimulants, I'm thinking about bringing it up.

Could anyone PLEASE share their Straterra experiences? I know many of you have complained of nasty side effects, and/or little or no benefit to ADD symptoms.

Well, I have had a good response to Strattera.  It does make you have a dry mouth, but just drink allot of water.  I have noticed positive changes with my ADD and so has my husband.

I guess it depends on your body chemistry.  I have a friend that tylenol makes her sleepy and it doesn't even effect me or most people.

Good luck I hope it works for you.

I can feel hungover on Strattera. Mornings are hard! I wonder if it's better if you don't do caffine? Or if you get lots of exercise. I've done it less than a month and noted the brain-clamp sensation. Does anyone else get that tightness at the back of the head? I thought it might be leveling out the wild idea-sprees I'd be on with welbutrin.
Nausea is definately part of the picture too. I'm thinking of giving up but will finish out my 5 pills. Incidently I'm on a 40mg dose.
SHOULD BE TAKEN AFTER FULL STOMACH DECREASES STOMAC ACHES. NOT A STIMULANT AT ALL. TRY SPLIT DOSES 1 PILL IN MORNING 1 AFTERNOON. DECREASES OUR SONS SLEEPYNESS. tHE PEOPLE E AT THE STRATTERA CUSTOMER SERVICE WILL TELL YOU NOT A STIMULANT.

The problem is that it doesn't really matter what any of us say about Straterra.  It effects us all differently.  I haven't had any side effects at all.  A friend of mine had serious sexual side effects.  You just never know until you try it.  If you have a good doctor you start out small and move up gradually.

Good Luck.

well, i didn't like it, but that's just me. i won't lie to you: it made me too constipated.  (along with insomnia, loosing weight, NONEXISTENT appetite, dry mouth, lead taste in mouth,  etc) but really, it was the constipation i could not take anymore, so i stopped.  but maybe it will affect you differenlty.... (be sure to get plenty of fiber!!)

it seemed to take my "pep" away, and made me too drowsy. I lost all motivation, although I could focus very well, what point is focus is its on the tv, and you don't have any motivation at all to get up because your meds zapped you of your energy??

BCgirl,

Straterra is a stimulant.  I was on it for 2 months and I was put in the hospital with severe chest pain.  They did all kinds of tests and blood work and nothing.  I stopped taking it for a month, I had finals and was stressing that I would not be able to make it without some meds and I took one, just one and the chest pain and palpitations, rapid heart beat, all came back.  I loved straterra, the only thing that I really didnt like was the sleepynes(sleepiness)?

The difference between straterra and adderall is that it uses different pathways to obtain the same goal.  I cant quote the chemical structure, but it is definitely a stimulant.  My sis in law as well as my good friend are both pharmacists and they told me.  The even told me not to try it because it was too new.

I am not saying dont try it, i loved it, but it is a stimulant. It is just not a "traditional" stimulant.

It's not a stimulant but some people do react to straterra like it is. It actually works like an antidepressant. So you'll need to build it up in your system like you did with Welbutrin before you will see any results.

Oh and it might still be tough to get Straterra in Cananda. Have a few friends that have been waiting over 5 months to try it. Some of that time it wasn't available but their doctors have been trying to start them on it and they are still waiting. Not sure why there is a holdup. Not real familiar how things work in Canada but just wanted to give you a heads up that you might have a wait.
tHE STIMULANT MEDS ARE NARCOTICS. tHEY HAVE TO BE MONITORED MORE OFTEN ALSO. DR. TOLD ME THIS. REFILLS CAN'T ALSO BE CALLED IN ON THE STIMULANTS. STRATTERA CAN BE CALLED IN ON REFILLS.
