Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the more significant underlying problem in homeless individuals.
Yes, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a huge problem for homeless people but I wouldn't be surprised if AD/HD was a contributing factor in some cases.
that is a common theory. It is also believed that there are lots of prisoners with undiagnosed ad/hd...
if it weren't for my parents, my husband and I would probably have been homeless by now...My birth father couldn't hold down a job & he couldn't live in one place for long. I wonder if many of the homeless people have ADHD? Maybe they can't hold job therefore can't pay rent/mortgage & spend all their bill money. I keep coming dangerously close to homelessness myself.me toosanya, good question. it's all just my opinion. i would think lack of recongition and treatment early on. you could say substance abuse is the major cause, but that's just self medication.
i was a firefighter for 15 years w/ undiagnosed ADHD, was involved in a work related trauma, retired and spent three years on a cycle out of control. while my employer chose to let me go due to physical and psych, they never addressed the psych. after three years and almost being homeless i got help. ADHD and PTSD.
i treated alot of homeless individuals in my work and in my opinion most were self medicating with some substance, and none got the right attention. they have a stigma and most are just swept under the carpet. if someone is so far out of balance it isn't likely that anyone can help them back, it's just not going to happen. it would take a full time caretaker to coach each one back. i needed a small town to get my life back.

just a little confusion here on my part...need a quick explanation...
is Ad/Hd not a mental health concern? or, were you speaking of other people with other mental health concerns other than ad/hd?
i have always heard a majority of homeless people are mentally ill.to unbreakable:
how does post traumatic stress disorder lead to homelessness, if you don't mind me asking?
I already know how undiagnosed ad/hd could lead to homelessness because I almost been there a couple of times....
just wondering...
