Losing Keys!!! | ADHD Information

Sorry this is long! Maybe Golden will be my only audience...lol

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment in the morning.
I needed to bring
1)a picture ID
2)insurance
3)keys
4) a referral
5) shorts (it's physical therapy...jumper's knee)

I woke up like 3.5  hours before the appointment so that I would be able to manage the huge task of getting to a doctor on time, with everything I needed
(the doc is 1 mile away). The night before I was craving a salad very much, and so I figured that even though I was not in the mood for salad in the morning, I just HAD to go to the make your own salad bar a couple blocks away. I figured that if I was craving it the night before (and I usually eat mostly meats and starches), it must have had something my body wanted. Or something...

I find that the only pair of shorts I have is dirty. So I rummage for clean gym pants.
I find my insurance card, keys, and referral. Can't find any photo ID, even though I flew with one the day before. My pants do not have pockets, and I can not find a pocketbook. I put my stuff down somewhere, and find a sweatshirt with pockets.

I find the insurance card and referral, but the keys are gone. I spend the next hour looking for them, and even though I thought I put them with the other stuff. No keys, no photo ID. I call the doctor's office to find out if I could see him without a photo ID. The secretary said yes.

Even though I had no key, I knew that I had to get to the doc. I left without locking my door, knowing that I would get locked out anyway because there are two gates that lock automatically before my door.

The appointment was short- the secretary was wrong. I tried to argue that I was told I did not need one by the secretary, but she denied it. Since it was my first time, I needed ID. So I had to reschedule. I was locked out from about 2-5:30 pm, sitting outside waiting for someone to open the damn gate.

cute!! sorry if you do not see it the same.i had to get my id picture taken twice in four months! i am suffering with adult adhd, mainly the aftermath of this untreated disorder's wrath over my childhood and adolescent years i was diagnosed three months ago at the age of 20. I haven't accomplished anything my whole life, until i began taking ritalin i left an emotionally abusive relationship only one week after starting meds. my confidence soared. i just wanted you to know it is endearing to recognize that others are as absent minded as i am, keys in two months my new boyfriend has had to get me three sets of keys cut, he doesn't make me feel like a failure either he thinks it is funny sometimes, but he accepts that i might lose them a hundred more times that is important. if i am not rushing around under pressure i likely won't finish my tasks at hand. I really appreciate being able to hear about others like me all the best

Sounds like at least one morning a week for me.

:) that is funny - sad and frustratingly funny.

I personally own 3 sets of keys :)  yup one is at a friends, one extra is in the house...incase i can not find my main set...oh and my child has a set. for himself.

It has taken me years, but I had to make purposeful homes for things...well begining.

When I bought my home 2 years ago I have a table right next to the door, & have a dish - that is where my keys go when I come home, and my purse goes under the table - if i put my keys in the purse ....well they then fall into the black       hole

I also have a purse w/ a zippered pocket on the out side of it - I TRY REALLY hard to remember to place my keys there when I am out or go to work.   it does work well when I am not to distracted to follow through.

For my job I have an office key, and an employee badge that I have to use on the time clock...my sup must get frustrated w/ me cuz many times I can not find my badge...so I too now have a special home for it...same pocket for my keys..as soon as I leave work I put it in that pocket.  IF I DON"T then I don't find if for days.

lol SOunds like something I do!! sometimes I'll even be holding my keys or whatever in my hand and then will think I lost them and start looking all over for them and then panic because i don't know what I did with them! happens to me all the time! not always with keys though .I've gotten pretty good about knowing where they are. Usually it is my ID card for school. I am always misplacing that or papers. I am very unorganized so I lose important things I write down very quickly. Papers and I don't dowell. I think I probably lose more papers I need than anything else! lol.
