Hello there! I am trying to put a newsletter together for summer ideas for parents who's children are ADHD and have learning diabilities and I am having a hard time. Any suggestions out there aside from attending a camp for ADHD?
I 'strongly' recommend Martial Arts Camp. Depends on the child though I guess...dunno the age of yours but ours in 6 and he 'loves' karate and I gotta tell ya...he comes home 'now' from after-school (in karate) and all he wants to do is EAT, take his bath, and watch a show on TV then off to sleep .. a lil' slice of peacefulness as filled our home...because he is working so hard he doesn't realize that he is getting out ALOT of physical energy. HOWEVER: I don't want him to be TOO tired and that was a problem this week because he was so excited about his new after-school he couldn't go right to sleep...know what I mean? But the summer camp is like from 7am to 6pm (anytime you want to pick them up you can) Just a suggestion for ya......one downfall here though: since me and my husband started back to work it doesn't seem like we 'see' very much of our lil' one...that's kinda sad. BUT: he loves it. They have 2 field trips each week and karate 3 times a week. Field trips are like the park, gymnastics, etc. but again; he 'wants' to be there and the interaction with other children is vital; but in an enviorment (sp wrong i think) needs to be very controlled for him...hope this helps...also we did do a Christian camp one summer and I totally LOVED it; however I son didn't like it as much as karate camp...you don't have to worry about kids saying things like...stupid, idot, etc..words that aren't nice to say. Sorry for rambling but on the last note here I'd like to say that his peditrician recommended Martial Arts to us as well for him.
