Sleepy on stimulants? | ADHD Information

Okay - today's my first day on Dexedrine. About 20 minutes after I took it (I'm starting with just 5mg/day), I started to feel kinda sleepy. I felt sort of "out of it", like my body was made of lead.

It's now been over an hour since I took it, and all I want to do is sleep. I don't think I'm daydreaming as much, but jeesh... I really don't like this sleepy feeling. Is this normal? Or am I a freak?

sakura38477.4923148148I thought you had heart problems. Stimulants are a big no-no for heart patients. Has your doctor cleared you and declared you fit for stimulants? Just checking because I don't want you to have a heart attack and go ftttt!!!

My dr didn't want me on stimulants at first, because of my heart history. However, the Wellbutrin did squat so she thought she'd try me out on a very small dose of stimulants (5mg/day). I had an EKG, echocardiogram, and holter monitor all done last year with no problems, so she thought we'd go ahead. She also wanted to see me again in a week.

I was a complete dolt and forgot to bring up Strattera. I don't think she's heard it's available here yet, or it would have been an obvious thing to try.

I feel more awake now, but not any more focused. We'll see what a few more days will bring.
Yeah, I heard that too high of a doseage can make people sleepy...I'm not sure about too low though. Sounds like yours is pretty low at 5mg. I have no idea. I'm taking concerta(54mgs) and feel great! Ever since I started on 36mgs of Concerta than went up to 54mgs I feel the same as I did without being on meds. I'm just as sluggish but no more so. I think I'm more relaxed though and focused. I'm happy that I'm the same person with meds as I am without though because i was so afraid my personality would change since I've heard some people complain about that...scary! But it didnt! I'm still the same old me lol. Anyway,I think you should talk to your doctor and maybe switch medicines bcgirl because that is a very low doseage and you shouldnt be having the whole sleepy feeling from that amount.
