Is your child in daycare or school? Have you tried calling the school to see if the symptoms your child is having are going around? OR better yet, call some of your local pediatric doctors offices and ask the receptionists the same question. If it is not going around, don't suppress the symptoms and ask to see a specialist if your doctor doesn't have any answers.
Is she on any other meds? Instead of asking her Psychiatrist ...maybe you should take her to her pediatrician. He/She may be more aware of this might be. Also if she is on a stimulate her heart rate and blood pressure should be checked periodically. My first grader's going thru a bout of intense coughing fits. Loud, hacking and disruptive. Does this sound related to dexedrine? Or familiar to anyone out there? Psychiatrist says it could be allergies, but we're not a particularly allergic family. Cough meds seemed to work temporarily, but I can't do that forever.
Hi! My 9 yr old has allergies and asthma - but never had an asthma attack until last May! She started coughing and could not stop. it went on for 2 hrs. and we finally called her pediatrian who stated she was having an asthma attack. We started her on her breathing treatments and within another hour her cough slowed and finally stopped. It scared me to death! She has been sick alot with her asthma (weizing, congested, etc.) BUT it is always been brought on by colds, allergies. Maybe you should see her pediatrician it could be allergies or asthma. I never thought severe coughing was an asthma attack! I thought the sign was you just couldn't breath...
