LOL! Hello, my name is April and I have ADD and I don't know the date!! I was thinking about Mother's Day I guess. Yeah, May 9, DUH!!
Thanks everyone for your input
Congratulations! and relaxThat sounds kinda weird:
I have taken several drug screens in the past for various jobs before, and they always give me a form to fill out so that they will already be aware of what prescriptions I am on.
If it makes you feel better, maybe your doc can give you a notice to give to them stating that you are on a prescription med. It sounds kinda weird for them to ask you about your prescription info AFTER the test results; usually they just get all that info the same day you come it. So that kinda confuses me...
But I don't know how large the company is where you will be working, but you are probably not the first person they have hired that has had to be on a prescription medication.
They can't use that against you, if you are on a prescription medication, and it shows up in your urine, that is not a reason for them to not hire you. IF THEY DO, YOU CAN GET THEM IN TROUBLE FOR IT! What I'm trying to say is that you have rights on this matter, and the employer has to follow the law on this.
But please dont' worry too much about it. I'm sure both the lab and the company you work for pretty much have some guidelines and some procedures set up for people who come in for drug screens who are on a prescription med. The lab probably deals with this situation all the time...you'd be surprised how many folks out there are on a prescription med for one thing or another...--Take heart in the fact that they are probably experienced in how to deal with this.
HOPE EVERYTHING GOES WELL FOR U!
Congratulations! We all spend so much of our lives at work that it's really terrific if you can find a position you love. I hope this new job turns out to be everything you hope it will be and more.Bierce! calm down, everything is going to be ok.
I have took several drug screenings before jobs before...(yes, i just admitted to how many times i have changed jobs
...) I am used to them...
This is what will happen in most cases: You will be sent to a doctor's office or some sort of medical center... What they will do there, is ask you to fill out a form and to include any prescription med you are on, and the name of your doctor(s). THAT INFO does not have to be disclosed to your employer if you don't want it to be, what meds you have been prescribed is not any of your new employer's business...what they want to know is if you are on any illegal drugs>>If they notice a drug in your system, and then look at your form and notice that it is consistent with a drug that you have been prescribed and then they contact your doctor and confirm that you had been prescribed this drug, then everything will be ok.
If you are very worried about it, you can inform the people at the doctor's office where you are sent to do the drug screening that you are on Adderall, and verify them that this will not count against you, but that is not something that your new employer will be looking at, or will even know. Your employer will the be sent a paper telling them whether or not any illegal drugs were found in your system.
You don't necessecarily have to stop taking your prescription drugs.
Even though your employer is sending you to have the drug screening, you still have a measure of privacy rights as you would at any other doctor's appointment.
DoN't worry your head off about it!
sonya_h38471.6617013889Thanks, The reason I was freaking out was because I need to start on May 9. The labwork papers are being sent to me from corporate headquarters, so I probably won't get them until Tuesday, and I called the lab where the test is "taken", (I pee there, they send it to a different state for results!). They told me, yes it will be positive, it is flagged and in one to two days they call me to get my prescription info. My question, why can't I just give that to them at the time they take the test! I am even going to the doc on Monday and thought maybe a letter from her stating my meds and that I am under her care might do the trick, but they keep saying they have to call me and it could take up to five days then. I don't care who knows I am ADD. Most everyone does, and even had it figured out before I had the diagnoses, it just never really came up ya know? "What qualifications do you have for this job?" "I'm ADD!!!"
This is a job at a Newspaper, always ALWAYS wanted to work at a newspaper, unfortunatley it's not writing, but I can get past that! It is in the advertising dept. Fun Fun Fun!!
I thought about it again bierce ADD is a disability therefore you are covered by the disability act law therefore they cannot discrimminate otherwise you contact the American with Disabilities peope. You have a legal script and documentation to prove disability. This of course is the worse possible seniario.Okay, I finally got my dream job. I start on May 8 after I sign the "necessary" papers and take the drug screening. I NEED to start then, (I NEED to start tomorrow if I could!) BUT, my adderall is going to effect the drug test right? Do you know, if I don't take my meds, and don't take the test until the middle of next week would it be out of my system??
1. I never told my future employer I am ADD, even though I am sure it would not have made a difference, it just never came up.
2. A positive will delay my start day while the company doing the test does research. I can't wait. Financially that is.
Any ideas???
April
I think most OTC and prescription drugs are out of your system within 72 hours, but don't quote me on that. I've heard that marijuana though, for example, can stay in your system for months.
May I ask what it is?
