those r good ideas.
How do I go about finding some one who specializes in adult ad/dh?
just go down the phone # list and call each office and ask?
Try the WebMD Physician Search I found it to be a helpful tool. The link below is for Physicians that specialize in Adult ADD. Just tell it your city/state and it will list all the specialist in your area.well, it's not like i'm due any minute or nothing. technically i'm due july 3rd, but i think it will happen at some point in june...but sometimes, i do realize that it's closer than i'm thinking...
i mean, my hospital where i am going to give birth is 1 1/2 hours away. birth is usually not so sudden....
but maybe you are right...we need to find somewhere closer, BUT THERE IS NOTHING HERE BUT THOSE OLDFASHIONED IDIOTS THAT ARE GONNA TRY TO TELL US THAT MY HUSBAND IS "MANIC" AND THAT "CHILDREN OUTGROW AD/HD." it's so frustrating.
they need to get with the times around here where i live!!
(can u tell i really don't like the medical facilities around here????)
sonya_h38474.8540972222Where are you from?
When we were looking for doctors, we called them. Some excepted e-mails with our questions. That way we didn/t need to waste a co-pay on a doctor that we didn't like. This helped us alot. Maybe if you find one you can trust, ask for a referral to a doctor near you.
stepmom2maddy38474.8819444444Oddly enough I have run into the same wall. Well..theres doctors everywhere, but when I started calling around some were like AD-what? And I noticed they test children free around here, but when I tell them I am an adult they look at me like I am crazy like it doesn't exist in adults.
I live in a city of about 2 million..so that gives you an idea about how much they care to research ADHD. You would think they would be up to date.
Dont know if you can do this, but I called my insurance company (behavioral health line) and they gave me a list of names of psychologist and psychiatrists in the area that they cover, that could do adhd testing.Hi Sonya, perhaps you will get the information your looking for if you contact your local chapter of CHADD. Below is the link:
CHADD.ORG: Professional Directory
Personally I would make the trip if this doctor is supposed to be an expert on adhd. Knowledgable doctors are almost impossible to find.Ok, i HAD an appointment to go see a neuropshychiatrist about ad/hd for both me and my husband scheduled. The closest neuropsychiatrist is over a 100 miles away.
but the appoinment was set for this friday...
Well, after some adding and some subtracting, and some calculating and some waiting, some praying, some hoping, and lots of wishful thinking, it is becoming more and more obvious that we won't be able to afford to make this trip all the way down there to this neuropsychiatrist to get our ad/hd tested and treated.
THE PROBLEM WITH FINDING SOMEWHERE CLOSER?
The area where we live is grossly outdated. No one here specializes in adult ad/hd, and we ran into some "proffessional" folks who don't even believe ad/hd exists in adults. ALL OF THEIR INFO IS SO ANCIENT AND OUTDATED! I don't want to go to anyone around here. So I checked all of the close big cities, and I can't find any adds that say that the specialist specializes in adult ad/hd.
I AM DEEPLY FRUSTRATED!!
I mean, what if I just randomly choose a psychiatrist here, closer in one of my closer big cities, and make an appoinment and go all the way there, and spend a peice, (0 for both of us) for a copay to see some jerk and they sit there and try to tell us that it's all in our head because ad/hd doesn't exist in adults????????? I WANNA MAKE SURE THAT THESE PEOPLE SPECIALIZE IN ADULT AD/HD BEFORE I DISH OUT THAT MONEY!
We are on the brink! We have a kid coming, and my husband is tense about it, when my husband is tense, HE SHUTS DOWN! His ad/hd is preventing him from thinking straight and he has been waiting to the last minute and running around blindly in circles getting NOTHING DONE! I can't do anything to help him like I used to be able to because I am pregnant and not very useful right now. I have been cut off from all means of keeping my head out of the clouds, no caffeine, no chocolate, no sugar, NOTHING, and I can't keep it together. WE NEED HELP!! WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
ok, sorry, thanks for letting me vent.
and ps. I don't fret around like this in real life, i just keep it calm, writing is my way of getting the emotions out...thanks for listening.
