Hi welcome!!
Usually the doctor has to test each med out with you to get the right one. It takes a while, but a med is prescribed, and you are usually on it for a few weeks and then you have to go for a followup. You can then tell the doc if the med was working or not, or if it was just working a little bit, and just describe the details to him. He will then decide to keep the dose the same, to up it or down it, or to add another med (if you were only getting partial results), he will talk to you about it. If it's just not working, then he may wean you off of that med and try you on another one. Here are the meds that I know of that they prescribe for ad/hd:
Ritalin
concerta
Straterra
Adderall
(am i missing one? some one help me think...)
And other's that CAN be used for ad/hd, amongst other things:
wellbutrin
Prozac
(there was more, but I forgot.)
well those are the ones that I remember.
(maybe some one could add something to that list if i'm forgetting...)
Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin, and Dexedrine are the stimulants most commonly prescribed for ADD.
THAT'S RIGHT! DEXEDRINE!
have you noticed anything so far bcgirl?
Once diagnosed how will you doctor go about prescribing medication. How do you know what is best for you? What medications are prescribed most often so I can research some of them. Sorry I know these questions are asked probably all the time but I'm new to all of this. Adderall, Ritalin, Strattera
