AUTISM | ADHD Information

I don't believe it IS higher than ever. The world is just more educated about it now.

Also remember that many people go their entire lives without knowing they have ADD. I never would have known if I hadn't have stumbled across a message board for adults with AD/HD one day. I used to think it was a childhood-only disorder - one that only disruptive boys were dx'd with. And for those with no family members who have it, who's to say somewhere along the line somebody in the family didn't have it and it was simply unknown?

Just a friendly note - when you type in all capitals, it means you are yelling. Plus it is more difficult to read.

Well, I think there is a heredity component in both ADHD and Autism.  I know people who have several family members with autism and other families with many ADHD members including my own family.

But if I read your post different, you could be saying Because some families Don't have other members with these conditions it Can't be inherited.  Well, some types of breast cancer have a high inherited factor, but there are still at least 60% or so, who get BC and have no other family members who got it.  So, there is a lot we just don't know yet about all these problems.  These are the hard conditions,  where there is no bacteria or virus to pin it on.  We just have to keep looking.

And no I don't expect the Gov. to 'save' me from anything, sometimes quite the contrary!

Oh, and ditto about the all caps.

Well, if you want living proof that ad/hd is heriditary, come on over and meet my husbands family and you can also meet my family, cause we both got it, and boy is it ever hereditary.there are plenty of other things that can cause ad/hd BESIDES heredity.  But heredity is one of the ways that you can have it. sonya_h38475.6907523148Yeah, a lot of doctors are too quick to label something in my opinion. I went to the doctor last month to get back on some ADHD medication. I told him I had been diagnosed with ADD when I was little(I'm 29 now), and that I just kind of coped with it. In the last few years though, it has really been messing up my life. Anyway, I told him I had taken a few tests on WebMD.com, and they had suggested that I was bi-polar, depressed, and had ADHD. He said, "Oh okay, we'll go ahead and put you on some Strattera." I said, "Umm, just like that? No tests or anything? That's kinda weird." He told me that the only way to find out for sure is my taking some medication. I thought that was odd.

MORE ADULTS ARE RECEAVING THIS LABEL ALSO. SOME SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME AS ADHD. NOT SITTING STILL IS ONE. MOST KIDS IN THIS  HAVE LOWER DEVELOPMENTAL SKILLS THAN PEERS. SI IS USUALLY MORE COMMON WITH THIS THAN IN ADHD.THEY HAVE LITTLE EYE CONTACT IF ANY.SOME ALSO HAVE SEIZURES ON TOPS OF THIS ALSO.CAN ONLY BE DECIDED BY SYMPTOMS.nO TESTS PROVE IT.

WHY IS ADHD/AUTISM HIGHER THAN EVER? IF YOU BELIEVE THE GOVT. WILL PROTECT YOU ,YOU ARE BLIND. i DON'T BELIEVE JUST BECAUSE OF HERDITY. MY FOOT! EXPAIN WHY IN KIDS WHOM HAVE NO FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE IT.

I don't know whether add and autism are on the rise.  They are certainly more frequently diagnosed these days.

However, I do know what you mean.  When I was a kid, I didn't know anybody who was allergic to peanutbutter, for example.  Now, it's not uncommon for many kids to have very serious allergies, etc.
