Strattera and insomnia? | ADHD Information

Hi all,

I have been on Ritalin with little to no issues for over a year now.  I felt like it was starting to lose it's effects (tolerance syndrome), so my doc added Strattera to my regimen.  I did the start with 25, then 40, then 80 thing, and have been on 80 fo 5 weeks now.  In the past two weeks, I have had a terrible time sleeping.  (I never did with just Ritalin, in fact soon after I started Ritalin, I stopped my Ambien Rx!)  Anyway, I toss and turn, have to pee all the time (or compulsively think I do), and then fall asleep around 4 or 5am, and my alarm goes off at 6:30.  I found in the beginning that I needed less sleep, which wasn't a bug deal, but only getting an hour or two?  I can't keep doing this...

Has anyone experienced similar things?

Thanks!!  Spacegal

oh definitely. I have had every single one of those symptoms.  either I could not get to sleep, or precisely at, say, 3 am, <ping!> my eyes would shoot open like on cue, or something and i would be awake for at least 2 or 3 hours..  there was one time that I had a big trip to go to the next day and i had to wake up very early, and I did not go to sleep AT ALL the night before.  I just couldn't. I tried and tried, but i couldn't get to sleep and before i knew it, it was time to get up and leave. (I slept in the car on the way back from my trip, later that evening though.)

I had the Peeing thing too.  I don't know what straterra does, but it made it difficult for me to pee and it felt weird. which made me have constant UTI infections, which I tend to be prone to anyway.  Whatever straterra does to your bladder caused me to have them much more often.

it also made me have a lead taste in my mouth.

and i know so many folks in this forum are getting tired of hearing about my deeply personal business, but since you asked, i will disclose:
the worse part was the constipation! oh it was god-awful! terrible! it was the main reason why i stopped straterra.

I also was never hungry and lossed way too much weight.

Straterra works for some, but the benefits was not worth all of the side effects to me personally. My body did not do well on it.
