Schooling? | ADHD Information

yeah I talked about that, even as a mature student they want to see marks so I have to take 3-4 courses and kick ass in them to proove that my life is worth something... I got into a University, even with my awful grades from High School. I started at a junior College and worked hard to get decent grades, then it's much easier to get into a good University that way. My degree took 8 years, but it's from a great college. I actually graduated with honors (tooting my own horn since I did so poorly in HS). Good luck!

Just spoke to like 7 different people. This isn't going to be easy....$@#^@#$ normal people....

Yeah you're right, they don't really give a crap about anything outside marks. Stupid Numbers.

Yes, that's right - they will look at your accomplishments, grades and entrance exam.  Usually, references are also taken but they aren't normally given a lot of weight.  No one really cares about your IQ except to the extent you can show that you've used it to do something.

However, since you have now been diagnosed and are likely being treated, you can likely do the things that will show accomplishment - particularly since you have a psych who will likely back you if you request accommodations to help you in becoming successful.

Can you retake the entrance exam while taking your meds?  Can you take a few classes outside of the desired university program to show that now you can get excellent marks?  Can you now do something else that can reflect what you can do - and not the add?

if you are over 21, you can apply for Mature Student status. Grades aren't as important then, but they will want to know what you've been doing with your life since high school - in other words, they'll want good references from employers, volunteer leaders, etc.

If that doesn't sound like a plausible route, could you maybe go back and take some adult education courses to upgrade your high school marks? That would definitely help your case.

Good luck and keep us posted.
I'm trying to get back in to university. I had troubles slowing down for the college pace and wasn't diagnosed until I'd nearly failed out of the program.

I'm trying to get back into a university program and wondering who's gone through the university process? I't wierd and scarry..... namely because I'm worried they'll judge my marks and not my intelligence..

They psychiatrist I saw took enough tests to proove anything and he told me that I was perfect candidate, 98 percentile IQ except for some short term memory tests and uhhhh one other I'd have to look at it. It's a 17 page report and he said he'd vouch for me to get into university....apparently he can pull some weight....

anyways the report is great but they're going to look at my marks and accomplishments......

cough cough....accomplishments? ahh! any suggestions? help?
