What can i do to concentrate? | ADHD Information

first of all talk to people at the university, ALOT of universities will cover the testing..... so it's free

SECONDLY
there are tips and tricks....uhh I don't have the time right now to explain the ones I know but there are lots of people aroudn that have lots of tricks, SOMEONE will know the right one for you...

i have a problem with concentrating at uni, Whether it be at the lectures or at home i can not just sit and do work...Although if i really get into it i can sometimes.

I dont know whether i would have add... but i can never concentrate, i usually think of something totally different when trying to study. I dont want to go to a phsyc to get a diagnoses because it is very expenxive and if it turns out that i dont have add i would have wasted heaps of money that i really dont have.

Are there other ways of being able to help myself concentrate??

Background music helps my son. I realize he's only almost 7 but just hear me out ok? The music (now this has to be instrumental only) nothing that's head-banging or rapping - not like that. We have found a CD that is 'wind chimes'. It's awesome. He has alot of instrumental CD's and now he can't sleep without them...we even have Christmas one's for Christmas time...give this a try....I know you can't do this unless your at home or in your car...(like you can't do this in the classroom). Won't hurt and I wish you the best of luck.well  even though I'm  not  suppposed to   I  sometimes  doodle  to  keep  myself  from  squirming  and  still  keep  an  ear  out for what  they  are  saying.

Hi there!

I know exactly what you mean. Get in contact with the uni and talk to a disabilities officer. He or she can tell you more about add and point you in the right direction.

I only got diagnosed when i failed uni... and I have to say that the money you pay for a good psych is worth it as compared to living in a world of frustration.

I know if you are getting a student support payment they will give you around 0 a year for textbooks etc as well. Use that money to go. Also explain to the psych receptionist the situation. A lot of people have the same problem, so they can work out a solution for you. Would you have family to support you with this?

Let me know how it goes and I will give you some study tips next time

For sure follow up and get tested. As a 43 year old who was diagnosed at age 40...sooner is better than later.

For now, whenever possible try to sit in the front row. Eliminate as many distractions as possible. Learn how to take good notes and find a study partner. Review your notes daily and don't get behind.

ADD & lovin it!38498.6089583333but skipshark concerta works the hole day (it sepose to do that anyway and with me it does.) wy do you take extramedcin thenThe best thing you can do is get tested... failing uni is what you really cannot afford, and imagine how much easier and more enjoyable your life would be if you could finally enable yourself to get the work done.

And even if you don't have ADD, I'm sure they'll give you some advice so as to better concentrate if you ask... after all, they're there to help! =]

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will try them out and i hope it goes well

Getting tested for add would probably be a good idea, but i would feel uneasy getting tested. I have a friend who has Add, and i just dont think that my concentration problems could be as severe as theirs, but i still find it very difficult to study, i would feel like an idiot getting tested and them just telling me theres nothing wrong with me, and that i am just lazy or something.
Haha, whats funny is that half way through writing this there was something more interesting on my leg , perhaps i just have a short attention spam.

Thanx all

good question!

sorry i don't have answers i only hope someone has an answer

As a university student, I've found that one thing helps extraordinarily in my attempts to study.  It's a known fact that we people with adhd generally have issues with organization, time management, etc.  My roommate set up a time once a day for a couple of hours to do studying and homework with me and my other roommates (I live in a house off-campus).  If you can find someone to make a regular schedule of meeting to study for a set amount of time, it helps dramatically.  As for concentrating in class, I tend to just use my concerta to keep my attention on the teaching and lessons.  For the study sessions I take 5mg of focalin about 20 mins before the set time for the studying, this allows enough time for it to kick in.  ha ha, just noticed attention spam.....don't mean to make fun of anyone but that's just funny...

Maybe I should go to the supermarket and buy more attention SPAM, I seem to be running low.....

bwah ha ha ha....sorry, it's just funny....
Hi ,
My son is 4 years old. He has ADHD and taking Retaline. He cannot sleep esaly and disurb us. We get advice from his phsyc  to  put  music  for him and we tried instrumental music, speacily piano (chopin) or Bach. it helped alot, and now he sleeps faster.
Music may help you to concentrate as "...mom" said before.  try it!
