Could our son have ADHD? | ADHD Information

We adopted a little boy 2 years ago. He is 4 years old now and cannot be still. He is never still and never quiet even though he is totally deaf. He had a cochlear implant 2 years ago and now has 2 year old hearing. He is behind in his speech and verbal comprehension. He is getting increasingly worse, especially when we go somewhere. Today we went to a dairy goat show and he was up in my lap, pulling on my neck , down on the bleachers, back in my lap, hitting the lady behind us, jumping off the bleachers, back in my lap, crying, laughing when he got scolded, back on the bleachers, hitting the bleachers, stamping on the bleachers, running out into the goat ring. He is getting to where he is almost uncontrollable. It is very embarassing. People look at you like you have a little monster that you don't make mind, but that is not it. I try to make him mind, but he is just getting out of control. We do spank (Please don't flame me! We aren't child abusers.) and we do use time out, but time outs are no use as he can't be still the whole time he is in time out and he will not be quiet. He is laying in his bed right now hollering Mama, mama mama mama over and over and over even after he has been scolded. It is like he is obscessed with having his way. What do I do. This is driving me insane. He won't stay inside our fenced in yard. He pulls his bicycle or chair or whatever over to the fence and jumps the fence. How do I get him tested for ADHD? We don't have insurance. HELP! I want my sweet little CALM boy back. The older he gets the worse he is getting. He also hits the dog outside. I have caught him with the dog penned up in the corner with a stick just hitting her and laughing. He also throws his trucks and balls at her and thinks it is funny. What is wrong with him. This sounds like a post for the "Parents of ADHD children" section-I think you would get more of a response.  Any parents with children that can relate? Would appreciate any insite.

There is help available through some local, county, state community health agency. The boy needs a diagnosis by a child psychiatrist and a stimulant medication. Once he has calmed down and is able to learn he can be taught to behave in a civilized manner. At his age it's not hard to do.Once past age 8 it's very difficult.

I have a 6 year old who has ADHD.  I have insurance but they didn't have a provider anywhere close to me that they would cover.  I checked with everyone.  I live in Alabama and the school system will test for ADHD, but there are so many stipulations.  The child must be failing or can't do testing in K5.  So check with your school system first, my child attends a private school, but they will test them too.  Well, he wasn't failing (yet) and was in K5, so they would not test him.  I checked with someone who refered me to one of our colleges for pysch students.  My doctor said that she would accept the testing of a student with the doctor/teacher signing off on it.  They based it on my income with the most having to pay was 0.00.  I did have to wait 6 months for an appointment.  Although, now it's all done and he is on Adderall and we are having wonderful results.  Austin is like a different child and it was worth what I feel like was a fight to get where we are now.

if you think that your son has ADHD then let him get tested what is the harm if it cums out not to.

to me it sounds like your son hase adhd if you can try to find out if his father or mother had adhd becuase it often runs in the family
