eggs | ADHD Information

Oh, yeah, sounds familiar! I frequently forget to eat, despite the fact that I'm starving.

Done the car thing too. Ok, I'm holding the key in my hand and I know I need the car to go, but how do I do it?

You're definitely not alone!                                 Missinglink, it is easy to say "hey I will remember to do this later".   So what I do is like when I am making eggs is to right away suppose I take the salt out from the cupboard and also the pepper, I immediately put them back, I immediately throw the eggs shells when I have a second while those eggs are getting ready and I put the oil away and I often have a plate ready before I even start everything.... I suppose you have to break things down in steps.  Anyway, non-ADHD people put stuff away right away, some of us ADHD folks consider it pressure to do that... We have to build our tolerance level and see there is a reward in doing things right away....What do you think? But at least you and I both know we can train our memory, but we don't like being fussed at.... I think that is one reason I am not married.  I don't like being fussed at.  But a positive attitude on my part would be to embrace and believe in change and hook up....

This is good for my mothers day dinner my husband ADD put barbaqued ribs on the grill and forgot them while doing something else.  I ate them and did not say a word they were well done, very well done.  He tried and also was motivated to cut the grass today.   Bottom line he tried.

Tell you husband to be proud who he is I cook also and I have to make sure that I do not put a tv in the kitchen or I would not have a house anymore. And now I can get caught on another task but completing it is a different story. Does you husband complete the task that he starts?Jillette                         My issue with forgetfulness has been forgetting to put certain things away and then getting yelled at for it.  It is not intentional.  I mean I might forget to clean the frying or pan or not realize I didn't clean it.  That is an example.  However, with continuous practice, I now remember to make sure I put the stuff away..... I think it is kind of like the idea of Biofeedback.   Sometimes I have also found myself angry at my brain and judgemental.   But I think we need to be more forgiving and just practice and practice.  They say practice makes perfect and suppose there is a muscle associated with ADHD that is not as strong as it should be if we keep going and working on it, we will get somewhere...I do take certain supplements to give myself a fighting chance....Well sometimes after a while if you get running really good then I have found that I can keep on getting things done but if I stop what I am doing and get on something else then I will never get back to that project again until my wife gets on me a fusses me out.AHA! I didn't know that stuff was ADD related. I thought it was ME related. On a really stressful day I sometimes have to TELL my hand to pick up an object to interact with it. 8(                                Jilette, your husband is lucky that he has a wife like you.   I am used to being raised as a child to curdling screams when I forgot something.  It is not the best approach, but after getting burned a 1,000 times psychologically over it, I have made a point to remember more often.  I am also making mental notes to put certain things away before retiring to sleep rather than postponing things..... Doing simply one thing requires one to focus and I am beginning to think that many ADHD people are also perfectionists and are afraid of how they will perform so they sometimes avoid doing something right away.... They also can get mentally exhausted.... Today, it was just amazing after having consumed for two days in a row certian supplements I was rather calm waiting in traffic.... I liked that feeling...

Yes my husband does not finish tasks right away if he is trying to do more than one thing.  Actually he can cook well when he is totally focused on it.  He is funny he bought bricks to do landscaping in our yard two years ago and they are still where he put them after bringing them home.

When I remind him I am accused of nagging and get yelled at so I leave it alone.  When he is in the right mood we can laugh at it together.  We are going on 10 years of marriage on the 28th of this month.

regarding eggs and driving 'issues:'

I laugh when I drive up to a 4-way stop sign and wait for the stop sign to change to green.  Hopefully there aren't any cars behind me--though if there were, I might get where I'm going a bit faster!!
ha ha . .. yeah.... Heck I've sat in my van, keys in the ignition and then had to think to figure out that  . .. . . oh yeah I need to TURN the keys because I'm trying to start the car! wohoo!

ha ha ha . . .been there done that.

Ahhhh, yes, the gofasters (car keys), you have to turn those. We call them "gofasters" because your car goes faster with them.

Have you ever waken up in the morning and went to cook you something to eat and you have the eggs in your hand and you totally forget how to cook them. Or have you ever started cooking breakfast and did something and forget to even eat you breakfast. And you did not realize it until later on in the afternoon.

You know maybe I just need to get a brain transplant or something because I don't think that my brain is working out.

Oh and by the way my name is missing link and the reason it is missing link is because that is how I feel everyday.

I forget things all the time.  I lose things all the time.  I do a lot better on medication or herbs.

I was famous for always burning at least one batch of cookies whenever I made them.  I start dinner and forget I have started it.  I thaw out hamburger in the microwave and find it the next day still in the microwave.  I stick a dirty pan in the oven to hide it from company and forget it is there for a week. We wonder what is smelling so bad.

The saddest for me though, is when my kids ask me to tuck them in at night and I say ok, then get distracted.  I find them later, hours later, in bed and remember that I never came to tuck them in. That is my sorrow in life.  I am not the best mom I can be for them.  But they all are very understanding kids and they laugh at me all the time when I talk to them about ADD.  At least they know that I didn't just not come and tuck them in on purpose.

But being on medication changes all that for me.  I am a different person.  I have one step son who told his Dad that he likes me off medication better.  I think this son has add too!!

i frequently forget to actually put the car in "Park", then wonder why it won't let me take the keys out of the ignition.

Yesterday I took the cordless phone with me to my car.

This morning I put the bread into the fridge.

I'm 21 and feel like I already have alzheimers!!

Isn't the fridge where bread is supposed to go?

The worst is when you get compound forgets....

I go into a room and forget why I went there..... then I start trying to remember walking through my mind backwards to figure it out and then I lose my train of thought and forget what I'm trying to remember....

So now I'm in a strange room, and I'm trying to remember that I was trying to remember why I went into the room...... DING! Toast is ready....

lol for sure!!!  it's been happening a lot at work too, which is starting to make me look slightly lazy.  i try to write everything down now, but it's still not enough for the little tasks... oh and we don't keep our bread in the fridge, there wouldn't even be room for it!

I do keep my car keys in the fridge if i've packed a lunch for myself, otherwise i'll forget the lunch.

I forget to pee..    Lol!

Sounds funny huh?   But true..   I'll be at work and the urge hits and I think "I'll get this done first, the go to the bathroom'..   Nope..  I forgot.  This will go on for about 2 hours untill I suddenly realize
You know I did that a few nights ago I came home from work with my wife and I told her that I needed to use the restroom when I get into the house but then I went to doing something and totally forget that I did not use the restroom.  Then I came into the family room and asked her if I did use the bathroom and she informed me that she does not remember me going so I had to go to the bathroom and think about before I would be able to go to the bathroom.

So don't worry you are not the only one.

I forget to pee..    Lol!
