Hey, new here. Adderall help | ADHD Information

Share

Hey, so glad that i've found this place. I didn't know ADHD boards existed! Good thing

I was started on 10 mg generic adderall alittle over a month ago by a nuerologist I started to see. I was bumped up to 60 mg the other week (20 mg 3x) and he told me that i could go up to 70 or 80 if more is going to help even more. I've done that, and the more that i've taken the the whole time i've been on it, THAT much more it makes a dramatic difference. As i've increased the dosages as to as high as 80 a day, i still haven't had one side effect at all the whole time i've been on it other than a loss of appetite, and my blood pressure remains very good. I'm assuming this is why he doesn't have a problem upping this whole time.

I'm getting concerned because my primary doctor told me the other day that anything over 60 is unusual, but people have gone as high as 90, though thats rare from what he told me. He did say it all just depends on the person and i might very well need that considering every time i take more it helps that much more and there aren't side effects. He told me that my body will let me know when i've taken enough (jittery, etc) and it'll start to have an adverse effect. He said he wasn't very informative about adderall so he didn't want to give me wrong information. You'd adsume i'd ask the nuerologist these things too, but he has told me that he isn't as informative as he should be, but he said he has said this is no big deal. I'm just wondering if this is overreaction on my part because i really don't want to hurt myself. My brother (also ADHD) and on adderall a few years has essentially said the same thing where my body will let me know when i've taken too much.

With regards to my ADHD, i guess its about as severe as one case could get. My regular doctor has told me he really hasn't seen it any worse in anyone else like with me. The nuerologist too who I had just met and put me on it told me within 15 minutes within meeting him told me i had a very severe case of it as well. Ha, I guess going through your history and rambling 5 million words a minute makes it obvious. I guess it does depend on the person, but does the severity of ones ADHD generally say they need more than someone else? My brother doesn't have it nearly as bad as I do, and he told me when he went as high as 60 at one point it had an adverse effect on him. Now hes only on i believe 10 MG 2x of the XR. Within the past month as well, he tried me on the XR, and while it worked very well, the generic seems to be better for me.

Another concern of mine is also being on this high of a dosage within alittle over a month. Is that too soon? Tolerance is also another fear, and needing more to obviously get the effect i'm having now.

The past couple of days too taking 70-80 i've been mixing baking soda with water a few times a day and i've found it almost doubles the effectivness of even that dosage. I'm not sure if thats telling me i should be on more. I'm alittle confused as to why I HAVEN'T had any side effects, and more just seems to make that much of a dramatic difference for me.

I'm not sure if i'm just someone who needs to be an extreme dosage, moreso than anyone else, especially if it helps that much more and i'm feeling fine. Either that, or if this is becoming purely psychological at this point, though I really don't think it is. I'm just concerned about my health at this point on this stuff. I stay away from the caffefine, orange juice and fatty foods as well to get more of the effectivness.

Let me note as well, 60 was working great, 70 worked better, and 80 was obviously working better than 70. Like i said, mixing the baking soda even with 80 made it that much more effective than not using it with 80 mg. Because i'm looking for the best edge I can possibly get w/o hurting myself, i'm not really sure when enough is enough but i want to take as much as possible if all its going to do is help alittle more...

Any info would be greatly appreciated and hopefully some of you will aleviate my concerns. Thanks

okay, wow..I don't normally read most of the long posts because I just can't handle them, but for some reason, I just read yours...and it sounds like you're on speed!!! You repeated the same thing over and over and over lol.

I would be very careful with the adderall, as it can be very addictive. Make sure to get all of your advice from a professional who is very knowledgeable about your health and history, as well as the drug. While I feel as though I have extensive knowledge about many things, adderall being one of them, I don't feel as though I'm in the appropriate position to direct you.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post them or pm me and I'm sure we'll all do our best to answer them! Best of luck to ya!

(Oh, and I take adderall and adderall xr as well in case you are interested in personal experience or what not.)

I took Adderall for a little while and the one downfall I found from it was that I could never get enough kick out of it. Its effects were very subtle for the amount I was taking. My Dr. has been moving me through different drugs, so if you haven't tried that you might find another drug that gives you the same benefits as adderall has been giving you, but with less dosage. My case of ADD is mild though, so maybe a high dosage is appropriate for you - everyone is effected differently by meds. Though if increasing the dosage effects your appetite you should watch that you don't deprive your body. Limiting the caffeine is fine, but orange juice is loaded with vitamin C and certain fatty foods (unsaturated) are good for your body (common misconception that fat is bad). You should make your body your main priority than the meds. I hope I was of some help...

Oh yeah, I forgot to post some of the stuff I was thining...severity of AD/HD doesn't affect the medication doseages. The amount of med. needed depends on the individual's brain's metabolism of the particular drug.

As nightowl said, be sure that you don't deprive your body. Although, ascorbic acid does interfere with adderall's absorption, so do avoid it during the day, but try to make-up for this avoidance at night.

You repeated the same thing over and over and over lol.

Ha, thats obviously been one of problems and even when i try sooo hard not to repeat myself, i always end up doing it anyway lol.

I'm aware that adderall can be very addictive, but i've never had a drug problem.  Nor would I go through withdrawl if i stopped using it. Its something that dramatically helps, but something I can do without. Its not worth risking my health, which is my main concern...

My doctor has said "you're taking too much (Adderall)  if you feel high/buzzed."  I think I know what he means...i.e. feeling happier, more energetic and focused is OK...staying up for two days and cleaning the house at 100 mph is not OK.

It has taken me a few months to find my "zone" where it's working great but not too great...in fact, I am up to 60 mg a day, which is the max he will prescribe.

Be very careful of a) taking more than recommended dose and b) not taking any after periods of high dosage (i.e. more than prescribed).  The withdrawal syptoms can be brutal (i.e. severe depression, sleeping all the time, etc)

Good luck!!
