Adderall and recent heart surgery | ADHD Information
Hi all- I have a question that I've been wrestling with. I'm a 36 year old healthy male, who had heart surgery a year and a half ago. I had one of my heart valves replaced, due to a congenital birth defect. I had no symptoms- the condition was caught by chance during a routine physical. A year and a half later, I still have absolutely no symptoms of heart disease. In fact, I'm healthier than I've ever been. I have, and have always had, ADHD. I told my psychiatrist about my ADHD, and he recommended that I try a new drug called Adderall- I just needed the approval of my cardiologist. The cardiologist recommended that I not take the drug, because his quick search of the internet (he knew nothing of the drug before), revealed that Adderall is not for people with symptomatic heart disease. I have never had symptoms of heart disease, and truly feel that Adderall would be safe for me. My blood pressure is normal, and I am young and healthy in every other respect. Any thoughts as to whether I should go ahead with taking Adderall? Thanks for your help.
