Long term stimulant use | ADHD Information

Death! Now I am freaked. Does anyone know any good sites to research the risks of long term treatment with dexamphetamines?

Does anyone know if there are any long term health risks caused by taking dexies or stimulants over the long term e.g. many years to treat Adult ADHD. I read a recent article about a study done in Texas on about a dozen children taking Ritalin over 3 months. By analysing their blood before and after Ritalin use the study found that all subjects had an increased risk of chromosome abnormalities associated with increased risk of cancer from taking the Ritalin. This obviously concerns me greatly so I was just wondering if anyone had any information about possible health risks associated with taking stimulants over the long term. Is there an increased risk of cancer? It would also be great to hear from anyone about their experiences with stimulants to treat Adult ADHD especially if they have been taking them for a number of years.

Thanks Mike

There are alot of risks, I suggest you reasearch them online and with your doctor.

They range from nearly nothing to death and it's hard to say where you'd sit...
Unfortunately no. If you go to Dexedrine's pamphlet, it clearly says that there are no studies done yet, because 40 years is inadequate time, so mutations, diseases, etc. are unkown. it's amazing.. It was blatant in the packet, but apparently the FDA was probably paid some amount to just let it in without long term consequences. Some real horsehit if you ask me. If you are taking a moderate or lower dose, don't worry about it. The stress will do it to you before the medicine lifejoy38484.1185185185
